I have home computer running XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2. Build 2600. A Compaq iPAQ running Microsoft Pocket PC Version 4.20.1081 (Build 13100) with Intel Processor (R) PXA 250 Microsoft Active Sync 3.7.1(Build 4034) Belkin Bluetooth adaptor F8T001UK Version 2. With help of Belkin have been able to pair the two devices. At present can get activesync to work through the USB/cradle but not through bluetooth. This is also the same for the facilities in the connection wizard of the iPAQ. For instance have broadband and would like to network IPAQ and Computer to use Internet Explorer and other functions but I cannot get them to work. Is It possible for anyone to provide some assistance (in simple language) as screens in the site examples are different from mine and I am getting very confused and frustrated?

Try following the word in the guide, don't worry about the screenshots. It's important to follow the guide step-by-step, because it'll work.

If after following the guide to the end it's not working, check that you don't have a personal firewall software that may be blocking the ActiveSync and Bluetooth communications. In this case you'll need to configure it to let this pass.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
I have tried following the word in the various text. For instance first tried "Bluetooth Activesync Guide for Windows XP Service Pack 2". Got to step 3 tried turning "discovery on" but come up with "An error occured while windows was saving settings Following settings were not saved Discoverability settings, Connect Settings." Which means I am not going anywhere.
So tried "How to share your Internet Connection via Bluetooth to your Pocket H3970"
Got as far as Internet Protocol (TCP/TP) Properties then went back to Local Area Connection Properties but there is no Sharing Tab but do have an Authentication and Advanced Tab and searching through these tabs I am unable to find "Enable Internet Connection Sharing for this connection"
However going through the "configure Connection Sharing" tab and right clicing on BluetoothConnection Properties and selecting the Advanced Tab there is a tick box under Internet Connection Sharing stating " Allow other network users to connect through this computers Internet connection." I have ticked this and gone to my iPAQ and gone into Bluetooth Manager. This takes me to Bluetooth Shortcuts, where there are none. However if I select Bluetooth Connection wizard and "Connect to the Internet" I am then given a choice of "Connect via a Lan or Dial up" tick boxes. I select via the LAN. I then click next where I am told no device connected, so tap screen and I get two bluetooth devices that have been paired. I select my computer. Next screen has the "create a shortcut for this connection" box ticked. I click finish to be told "Unable to establish a connection. Please make sure the device is enabled and in range. Also verify that the requested service is available."

Can you help Please?

I am a not so old man with the exact same problem., settings and software version XP pro SP2
I am trying to get a connection with my Nokia 6310i phone where Bluetooth is enabled and active.
I downloaded the latest drivers, installed them and rebooted. I also checked the XP firewall settings where I added all necessary progs with the same result as the poster of this topic. As soon as I tap the option Turn discovery on and try to apply, the error message comes up telling me it did not save this option. It feels like ...yep hitting my head against a brick wall.
FRUStrating.

Had the same problem with discoverbility settings not being saved - didn't look much in to it, but was able to open connection via Serial Port under My Bluetooth Places (start menu -> all programs) - the device was on the list, but not recognized in various apps. After connection - all fine. Hope it makes sense - I can now synch my phone again with Outlook
