Hi - I'm trying to set up pfsense on a spare PC with internet access through a Vodafone Ultra Hub. The install goes fine, and I can assign interfaces and access the web configurator from a LAN PC, but I can't access the Vodafone Ultra Hub or the internet. Googling tells me that I need a fibre capable modem that can be bridged. Any recommendations gratefully received

You should be plugging in the pfsense box directly into the ONT not via another router, otherwise you end up in a double NAT situation

As above you should connect the PFSense box directly to the UFB ONT or Vodafone Fibre modem depending on what service you have.

You will obviously need to setup the WAN interface with the appropriate configuration, PPoE, DHCP, Vlan tagging etc depending on what service you are running.

Thanks for the replies - I have connected the pfSense WAN port directly to the ONT (HUAWEI EchoLife HG8240) as instructed, and configured pfsense as shown in the accompanying images

This 1st pic shows the WAN settings on the Vodafone Ultra Hub

I added the firewall rules allowing any to any for troubleshooting purposes

I'm assuming i've misconfigured something - if you need more images, please ask

Cheers

There is an option under the interfaces menu to assign an underlying interface to a specific role, eg igb0.10 to WAN, as it looks like you're still using the untagged interface on your WAN config above.

Sorry, I don't have a unit in front of me to get the exact configuration option / menu, hope this helps, though.

I'm still working on my pfsense config - all is good with preceding issues, but I'm struggling to setup wireless access via a Netcomm N600 (NB16WV-02) dual band modem. I have connected it between a TP-Link TL-SG108PE smart switch and the pfsense router, connecting via the LAN ports on the Netcomm. I have setup a static DHCP lease on the router, and I can sometimes connect to the internet via both ethernet and wireless, but according to Ookla's Speedtest, speeds vary greatly, and sometimes it cannot connect at all. I have watched various Youtube videos, and I'm wondering if SpaceInvader One's recommendation to allocate another port on the router's quad-port Intel NIC, and connect the Netcomm on a different subnet, would be the way to go. I thought it would be 'cleaner' to have the Netcomm just act as another switch and supply the wireless access point. I have turned off DHCP on the Netcomm, and here is a pic of its settings - any help appreciated
