I’ll just ask the simple question first before I embark on a lengthy description of my current setup.

What is the excepted transfer rate of data using the Bluetooth File Transfer service?

I’m getting a transfer rate of 9.6KBps. Given the 700Kbps (87.5KBps) connection I would have expected more. The signal seems OK and I can’t find anything to improve throughput.

Any ideas on how to improve the throughput?

Details

The two PCs are both running Windows XP SP2, which means doing battle with existing Windows Bluetooth drivers. The hardware is from Dick Smith Electronics (probably rebadged.)

It depends on the driver implementation. I think all current drivers implement a half duplex RS232 interface, limited at 115kbps. Include on this overhead and you see where the bandwidth is going. In my case I get a max of 42kbps between my laptop and desktop.

Ahhhh, poo. I did so want my two ugly pigs to fly. Now I guess they'll just have to be happy wallowing in mud.

I guess one doesn't really want to connect ones PCs up into a LAN and share drive/folders.

I did this and thus the questions about throughput.

Silly me I thought a 2Mbps leased line was what people mean when they talked about slow.

freitasm,

When you say 42kbps I take it you're saying 42KBps (bytes) and not 42Kbps (bits), otherwise you're getting a transfer rate of around 5.25KBps.

This would be quite slow., or at least 56Kbps modem rates.

If it is 5.25KBps then I shouldn't be grambling about my approx 10KBps rate.
