Now I am not sure if this is a Vista problem or a Intel 4965agn issue but I have only encountered it in vista/windows7.  When I download a file say Windows 7 beta I get to about 60 odd MB and the connection drops off.  Not completely but I lose internet access but still have local access.   To resolve it I need to turn off and back on my wirelss connection.  The other way to overcome this annoyance is to plug in an ether cable and disable wireless and all is good.  This happens no matter what download and around 60MB seems to be the coommon denominator.

I have a HP DV9612TX which came preloaded with vista ultimate and also has the Intel 4965AGN network card.  I have SP'd  and updated the Intel drive from the Intel site, The windows update and from HP and each time have the same problem.  I downloaded Windows 7 last night hoping the problem would be resolved but alas once again it appeared when I was downloading the windows updates.

Has anyone else had this issue?
Is it vista/Windows 7?
Is it the Wireless card?

My Dell Laptop (Latitude 620) has a b/g card and running XP and has never had the problem.  I have had two new routers and from what I recall the problem still happened.  I have gone back to my original router (US Robotics 9106) which is a bloody reliable router.

Has anyone got any ideas as I am stumped other than faulty Wireless card.

Thanks in advance.

Hiya

I have found the same issue with my Laptop (as well as my brothers) both HP 6000 series running the Intel 3945ABG card and Windows Vista. From my trawling of the internet it sounds as though there is an issue with Intel's wireless cards and Vista.

I initially fixed the issue by using a wireless usb dongle, with this I was able to download large (over 1GB) files without disconnection or loss of signal that I had been experiencing.

I then formatted my Laptop a few weeks ago, and went back to using the laptops wireless card (due to lack of USB ports and an issue with anything running through a usb hub) and it has been fine, intermittent at points, but otherwise have been able to download large files fine, albeit slowly due to a certain providers bad service for the whole town lately.

My suggestion, quick fix - Wireless usb dongle
long but not guarenteed - format (i found it easy with HP's system restore feature)
There have been other suggestions made on other forums, to use up to date drivers for XP on vista for your card. as well as rolling back to the original drivers (can be done with system restore). I found the up to date drivers had issues for me.

Again Intel doesn't seem to have any information about these issues but there are alot of people experiencing the problem, not just with our specific cards.

Hopefully this helps.

ps. Originally i had to turn off and on the connection, until after about 5 tries where it would no longer reconnect, and I'd have to restart the laptop. Tested with 3 different wireless routers from different companies, so I can conclude that it is a problem with the card/vista combonation. Have also tested with XP installed on laptop and had no troubles.
