I have been liasing with compaq, toshiba referecing problems trying to synchronise using Activesync via Bluetooth.
My MS Activesync both on IPAQ and/or Laptop justs sits there saying connecting or sometimes receive message stating on the laptop that the device trying to connect is not recognised.
I have a toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 laptop with in built bluetooth module. My ipaq is 3870 again in built Bluetooth. I have looked on your bluetooth configuration guide with no Joy. I dont receive a prompt on the IPAQ bluetooth manager to connect to Bluetooth serail Port. I receive option to connect to Com say

The Toshiba stack on laptop reports ports as follows
Bluetooth local com Com5 Local comclient, Com7 Localcom serial port, Com8 Bluetoothsettings.

Ipaq you cannot change com ports so inbound is com7 and outbound is com8.

Microsoft activesync is set to synchronise when cradled via bluetooth active sync.
Devices have been paired.Bluetooth manager on ipaq says device is bonded and is active sync parter. actions show either connect to com6 or disconnect from com 7.
Activesync on ipaq has enable syncronisation when cradled using Bluetoothactivesync. Include PC when syncronising is not ticked.
if I select sync then connection icon turn green and nothing further happens.

Bluetooth manager shows status on ipaq as Device name dsd_laptop connection Serial port Signal good.
And device name dsd_laptop connection com7 siganl good.

Activesync on pc set to allow serial or infrared connection on com7. Microsoft activesync on pc set to synchronise continuosly while device is connected.
If I select connect to com7 on bluetooth manager on ipaq and then select blue activesync icon. This starts microsoft active sync on PC which goes green and says connecting.
I then receive error saying microsoft active does not recognise device that is trying to connect

Microsoft activesync has been upgraded to 3.7 i have tried 3.6. I have tried my wifes ipaq and still cant synchronise via bluetooth. Note I can sync via USB no problem. I have applied all Service pack for toshiba product and IPAQ No Joy.

Bluetooth manager on PC says connected.

Can Anyone help.

Does anyone think upgrading to pocket pc 2003 might resolves the problem as I have read that this release is geared towards connectivity including bluetooth.

Not really. It's a big hype, with Microsoft saying they developed software for this and that, but the manufacturers have the option to use something else. HP uses Widcomm based software, not Microsoft. You should have the same results.

Have you already look in our Bluetooth Guides?

I'd suggest you to print the guide you need, and follow step-by-step. Don't skip anything. It should work fine, unless you find one of the item is not installed correctly on your computer. But you'll see clear then.

I have tried the bluetooth guide with no success. Please see my settings below.

Laptop
Local Com Client set to Port 2
LocalCom Server(Serial Port) Com 4

On ipaq bluetooth manager. Laptop is selected.
Activesync partner is ticked.
Device bonded yes
Device name correct
Actions - Options Connect to Com4, Remove bond with device, Remove this Device (DOnt receive options to send file, Send Business card, Exchange business cards, Connect to bluetooth serial port, COnnect to Network Access). I select Connect to com 4 which as per above has been set as the serial port. Actions now show (Disconnect from com 4, remove bond with device, remove this device- hence ipaq appears connected at this stage).

On laptop
Select Bluetooth Service Centre
In Local device if i select connect to com4 I receive message 'You
cannot connect a local service as the point to which you want to connect device. Please select remote device.
If select Remote device. Serial port connect. The ipaq at this point prompts 'Authorisation requested. Device name Correct. Requesting access to serial port. If I select Accept Remote devices on ipaq show as connected on serial port.local Devices say connected on com4 and com2.
Set to continous sync
On Pocket PC
Bluetooth manager show bluetooth status Device name correct, Connection Serial, Signal Good.

I click start activesync. Message status on ipaq. Connect to Bluetoothactivesync. Status Connecting to Host. Nothing further happens.

On Laptop if I select ms active sync. file connection settings. Allow serial cable or infrared connection to this com port. I have tried both com4 and com 2. Active sync says connecting nothing further happens. Receive message stating Microsoft Activesync does not recognize the device that is trying to connect. If mobile device click retry else cancel. Retry causes same message to appear.

I have tried an ipaq 3870 and 3890. Microsfot activesync 3.6 and 3.7. I have upgraded the bluetooth stack on Toshiba satellite pro 6100.I have applied all compaq bluetooth patches. Compaq say is must be problem with Toshiba as ipaq settings are correct. Toshiba say laptop settings are correct and must be be problem with ipaq settings. Please advise what I'm doing wrong. It must be something to do with the ports. I can synchronise ok via usb.

Please help me.

Bal.

I don't know the Toshiba BT software, but here's the correct sequence you should try:

  • Make sure devices are paired
  • Don't connect anything yet
  • On ActiveSync check the "Allow serial" box and select COM4 (the Server port)
  • On your iPAQ open the Bluetooth Manager, open the icon corresponding to the laptop and check the Activesync partner box:

  • On your iPAQ tap the Bluetooth icon and select Start ActiveSync

Note that there is no configuration needed on the iPAQ except the "ActiveSync partner" checkbox.

The only way to start ActiveSync over Bluetooth on these models is using this method.

I have exactly the same problem a bal. I get exactly the same message on my laptop, ie device not recognised.

I thought Bluetooth was a serial replacement in this situation, and like bal I can see the incoming connection from COM5 on my laptop to the PPC (an iPAQ 5550 - Mobile 2003), so why doesn't ActiveSync pick this up? Is AS a different service to serial connection?

clyates, check your configuration, as Isaid nothing to change on the Pocket PC, and ActiveSync is to be configured to listen on the Server port on the latpop.

Another question, for both of you: do you have a personal firewall running? If so, please turn it completely off and try again.

I have tried exactly this and my ipaq sits there with message connecting to host. Bluetoothmanager at this stage on laptop says connected to com4. I cannot see what i am missing. Is there any other bluetooth software I can try installing that might possibly help or anyone else out there who has configured an ipaq to the toshiba satellite pro 6100.

I dont have a personal firewall and have tried disabling my local virus scanner.

Bal, can you confirm the COM4 connection is only opened when you initiate the ActiveSync from your Pocket PC using the Bluetooth icon and then "Start Activesync"?

Are you 100% sure that the connection is not established in other way?

Also, is ActiveSync checked to look for connections on COM4?

Well, if all these conditions are met, I don't know what else. The configuration is correct AFAIK, and I'd blame on the laptop side. I don't know how the Toshiba builtin Bluetooth works to give you a definitive answer.

Bluetooth manager shows no connection to the IPAQ. As soon as I click Activesync on IPAQ the Bluetooth manager on Laptop shows as connected on serial port.

When You say is 'Activesync checked to look for connections on Com4' On the IPAQ I select under the actions menu connect to Com4. There is no where to check to look for connections on Com4. I know on microsoft activesync on the laptop you can select which Com port Active sync uses and this is set to com 4.

I have spoken to Toshiba who confirm the laptop bluetooth is working as it shows a connected status when a successful bluetooth connection is made. As my laptop is inbuilt bluetooth enabled is there any free software I can use that may resolve the problem I have just in case its a problem with Bluetooth manager on Toshiba.

    Bal,

Unfortunately, there's not any software that you can put on your Toshiba to help resolve this. I've read through the thread also, since I had the internal chip on my 5205 and from memory it looks right??

Toshiba's BT Manager, etc. is not very intuitive, topped with poor documentation and little help from tech. support. A totally different UI from Widcomm, etc. I got my money refunded.

Oh, and tech support let me know they were no plans to update its software last released in 2002.

Let me have a fresh look this evening and let you know if anything comes to mind.
