Okay - So this is the problem I am having. We are a small new business - We get our internet with Telecom, we have a business plan and so with the 24 month contract we get the free 2Wire modem.

This problem has happened since we got it about 5 or 6 months ago, and I've just dealt with it. But its really starting to annoy me now.

The modem works fine most of the time. All our computers and printer can connect to it, 2 computer over ethernet, and everything else with wireless. Every so often I have to turn off the modem for whatever reason. Most recently its because the electricity company were fitting new electrical thingies and so we had to turn everything off, including the modem. And this is where the trouble begins ;)

Now power is back on, as is the modem. All wireless macs in the office that are connected to the router, work absolutely fine - no hickups. But any PC's (in this case just laptops), and we also have a wireless printer on the network so everyone can print to it, can't even find the network. I have tried everything I can think of.

I rescan on the modem, clear device lists, turn off then back on, turn the computers off and on, try typing in the SSID manually. But nothing I do seems to help. At some point, after a few modem turn offs and turn ons, the laptops and printer find the network again and connect as if nothing happened... But I'm rather miffed as to why it might be happening in the first place.

Sorry this question turned out to be longer than I had anticipated. Hopefully it all makes sense. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Dan

Do you mean by "find the network" that you can't see the 2Wire when you scan for wireless networks? Does everything start working on its own if you just wait for a while instead of restarting again?

My wifi has the beacon period set to 50ms which seems to work ok, but I also set RTS to 1024 to manage congestion better. Maybe you can experiment with some of the 2Wire's other options, turn each option off one at a time to see if problem solved. Mine turned out to be incompatible with some PCs when a "4x" option was on.

Time to find a new industry!
