I got active sync to work once with bluetooth but now it doesn't recognize the device says that active sync doesn't recognize the device.

to get it to work the first time, i read an actice sync help guide and it says not to have it plugged in with the com ports while turning on so i turned off bluetooth restarted and then retried and it worked perfectly but then i disconnected from active sync to test to see if it would connect at all time and it didn't. I tried doing the restart thing again and now everytime it comes with the doesn't recognize problem.

I have a Compaq Ipaq 3975

I'm using the bluetooth that came with my logitech mx desktop wireless bluetooth.

I have followed maybe 40 different guides and they all come with the same thing. Before I got it working the first time it used to just stay at the connecting to host which it still does now but with that not recognized error.

I would be very grateful if anybody could help me.

Thank You in Advance VERY MUCH

First of all, is this Logitech USB connected directly to your computer or to an USB HUB?

You checked the power control for your problem with mouse sleeping - did it solve this too?

IM ALMOST BALD AND IM ONLY 16 bah i'm pulling haire out

I've tried almost everything to get my acticesync working.

It's worked twice out of 100000000 times i've tried.

I've followed a million different tutorials and all ended up the same.

Do you think if i upgrade to 2003 it'll work?

Another thing... Are you 100% sure that ActiveSync is configured to accept incoming Serial connections on the same port that is listed on your Bluetooth configuration on the Local Services tab?

Try to delete the local service "Bluetooth Serial Port" and then create one called "ActiveSync" on the same com port.
I'm not sure, but I think that's what made my connection start working.

I have the exact problem you have. The BT activesync works before but one day it suddenly stopped working! My observation as follows:

1. out of no reason, my PPC's activesync are VERY SLOW to initial a connection even with USB cable. before, it takes less than 5 seconds for activesync to start "connection to desktop..." when I put the ppc into cradle. now it takes more than 30 seconds before the connection even begin!

2. When using BT, the BT manager DOES make a BT connection with desktop less than 5 seconds, then the Activesync (7.x) on the desktop detected this and start trying to connection to the ppc, while...

3. on the PPC, it seems the activesync on the PPC are not eager to look for the desktop, instead it wait for 30 seconds before start to connect.

4. the problem is the desktop version of activesync has a timeout of 15 seconds before it throw out a dialog saying it can not recognize the device and then go dumb.. no subsequent connection from BT can re-initial the activesync except after reboot the desktop. However, USB connection still works.

Thus, my suspecion is on the PPC, there must be something wrong with the PPC activesync for it takes so long to start....

My ppc is ipaq 5450. Desktop is Win2k Pro with Microstar BT dungle. If you have any suggestion, please feel free to email me at

thanks!

It sounds like the Microstar doesn't have enough power supplied. Check that your USB port is not a HUB.

Nope, even with the MicroStar BT dungle connected directly on my computer's USB port and there still have problem. It's not the regular BT connection problem

My observation is the BT dungle DOES made a connection (since there is an BT icon on my toolbar informed me the BT connection is established and ActiveSync on desktop DOES start to try to get a connection). The problem I think is in the PPC Activesync. Since it takes more than 30 seconds to initial a connection, but Desktop Activesync always timeout only 15 second. This is the main reason why a connection can never be made.

Thus, I think there must be something strange inside the PPC. I suspect it's software/setting issue since the BT activesync does work before.

Is there anyway to increase the Desktop Activesync timeout? My feeling is if I could make the timeout 3 min instead of 15 second then the connection should be successful.

On your Bluetooth Serial Port configuration (the dialog shown above), is Secure Connection set to Required?

No. Actually I tried both. I make it required and not required and both failed.
