hi all
I like some advice for my work setup. I started the biz by myself and relied easily on an external USB for backups now I have 3 others with a total of 4 different PC's.
For ease of use I got a NAS drive just to share the files we work on but I don't want to allow internet access to the other 3 PC's. Had to fire one of them cause he blatantly went against company policy.
However if i disabled network on the PC's then emails and access to the NAS is disabled
what are my options pls?

Probably the easiest thing to do would be to setup firewall rules on your rotuer to block outbound access on ports 80 and 443 on all internal IPs except your own computer.

using
TP-Link TD-W8960N 300M Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router 4 ports ADSL2+ WPA/WPA2at the moment but am gonna get this
NETGEAR WNDR4000-100NAS N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/nreading files off the NAS drive is really slow at the mo, a mate suggested the netgear modem router above that it'll improve the speeds

I am pretty sure you can set-up a schedule to block certain PC's.. I know for a fact I could on my old Linksys modem / router.... What kind of NAS do you have? It comes down to the CPU, RAM, network port speed.

I use one these at home. While they are reliable they are slow. The maximum throughput I can get from mine is about 14MB/s (using WD Green Hard Drives).

Netgear have an optimisation guide here and also check that you are running the latest firmware.

Hi, those NAS units are particuarly slow, if you want to stay with an applicance NAS then QNap or Thecus are worth looking at, otherwise I would build a basic machine and run FreeNAS or similar.

The Seagate BlackArmor range are pretty good (220 or 440) - but now is not the time to be buying Hard Drives & NAS Boxes with the Thailand floods! Qnap or Synology are really good and you might be able to use the drives from your current NAS (although check their website first).
