Sonoffs work fine with both, they use the ewelink skill which many many devices do. All will work with google home to a degree, but the ones with temperature sensors cannot be read by either google or alexa.

I have used the TP-Link HS100 for around 6 months now. I had my christmas tree lights connected to it for a while and was really cool to tell google "turn on the christmas tree". I use it now to power on my subwoofer on my home theater system as I hate having it powered on all the time and you have to manually switch it on at the wall every time you want to use the home theater. Also another thing I use it for is to turn on the slow cooker while I'm at work, I find if I turn it on in the morning most food is overdone by the time I get home.

Really handy for everything I've tried it on so far. You need the KASA app to set up and the on/off button on the app is very responsive (pretty much instant). Haven't had any problems with it but have only tried it with the on/off functions. Connects with Google home really well. My partner tried to connect her phone to it the other day but apparently it can only have one user and we had to reset it, I am not sure if this is 100% true, need to have a proper look into it.

Has anyone tried the kogan plugs? They are selling them for $69 for 4. Supposedly work with Google assistant and Alexa but can't see much feedback on them. Tempted to give them a whirl at this price.https://www.kogan.com/nz/buy/kogan-smarterhome-smart-plug-with-energy-meter-pack-of-4-kogan/

That's funny - I'm asking the same question of Kogan's smart bulbs, which also are a damn good price, provided the quality is any good.

That said, I think there's less risk with these smart plugs than the bulbs as it's more a matter of on and off! That's why I've gone with an eBay-sourced plug recommended earlier in the thread. Decent colour appears to be beyond all the cheaper bulbs.

Yes, Google Home functionality is great using Eweelink.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

Are people still happy with the TP-Link HS100? Is it easy enough to program them from Android with random timers? Has anyone controlled high loads like heaters with them - any problems?

I have to climb into my ceiling cavity (which gets pretty hot in summer) a couple of times a week to update the program for my ventilation system, which runs on a cheap $10 digital timer. I'd like WiFi control. Might be handy for things like heaters and a couple of other things in inaccessible locations.

Yes I have the Kogan Smart Plugs x4 and they work as expected, reliably.  Yes linked to Google Home hub, for voice command on and off. The ones I have monitor power usage.

Much better than some cheap Orvibo S20 ones I had from Aliexpress.

I bought a TP-Link HS100 three weeks ago for automatically turning a coffee machine on and off with a schedule. Android app is super easy to use, plus you can manually change the schedule, or turn on or off, from your app remotely. I'm totally sold on it.

One question I have, if the internet goes down, what impact does it have on the plug - does it turn off, or default to whatever setting it was on at the time? Anyone know?

D-Link makes some WiFi plugs with Alexa and Google Assistant integration too.

The plugs seem to get good ratings, and they're great value. The Android app is rated 3/5, and most of the recent reviews are really poor. Have you tried the app, and is ok? I don't have any of the smart assistants.

Can you set a somewhat complex schedule? ie multiple on and off events through the week, different on different days?

Looks like free delivery is in 4-10 days, not bad.

The TP-Link is double the price but the app is rated 4.7 / 5 - might be worth paying the extra for that.

I use the smarter home android app to set up and adjust schedules, recently changed phones and reinstalled.

Yes you set any days, times for on, or off.  Seems fine to me.  I run ventillation, tv, pc, microwave.

Thanks. I think the app controls many things, not just these, so reviews are for a variety of products. I'm used to the Broadlink app which is absolutely rubbish, so it's probably similar.

I'm still tempted by the TP-Link, which I can go get today, and I do like the idea of having an app that isn't rubbish.

Can any of these plugs you can do completely local control (no app needed or alexa or google home)?  Ie do they have a published api?

Sonoff +1. If you are into a bit of tinkering you can also flash them with tasmota for full mqtt compatibility.
