Just bought and flashed a 2nd brilliant smart plug to tasmota.   Had to re-aquaint myself with teh process, but added it to my openhab machine as a container i can start whenever I need to.  First time I did it I had a spare raspberry pi with the tuya-convert software.

Took me 30 mins whoa to go( to be fair most of that 30 mins was writing instructions and getting the docker container running since I forgot how I did it last time), so now it's in openhab and homekit for use.  No specific manufacturer app here, or phoning home.

I got some kogan plugs, was going to hook them up with HA but virtual box has decided that every time I start running home assistant and it gets to the started screen to start making my PC non responsive so good times ahead trying to figure out why lol

These because they're not as wide as the other ones.

Yeah they are, that's why I only brought 4, They can go on plugs where its not a double sided powerboard, For my double sided 8 plug boards, I'm still looking for a replacement for the sonoffs that don't take up 2 spaces.

Okay so update, went with the Kogan plugs

Positives:

  • They work
  • Can view the energy use in the kogan or Tuya app
  • They're compatible with home assistant

Negatives

  • They're big, they have the plug in the middle of the plug if you go for the skinny ones which ruins 8 point powerboards or they fill 2 spots wide. if you go with the other ones, they're too wide at the top and take up two slots as well
  • The Tuya integration does not broadcast sensor data to home assistant so I can't see the energy meter.
