I know there are a few of you here with Davis weather stations so I'm after some help. I have had my station  Pro Plus for several years and used to have it connected to a desktop pc. I have relatively recently up graded to both a laptop and fibre. I have not been able to connect to the weather data console due to a "Communication Error" ever since.

I'm not sure if I've missed some settings in the Fritz!box or the weatherlink software. If anyone in Auckland would like to pop out to Papatoetoe it would be greatfully appreciated

Any suggestions here I'm also happy to give a go, but I'm not too technically minded

Thanks

Is it a USB port logger? If so you will need to load the UART drivers from silicon labs.

How are you connected to the pro from PC?

USB are drivers up to date? Especially if using USB adapter to serial connection.

A.

(I've got vantage pro and connect nuc w10 to console via serial cable with USB adapter www.kags.net )

What is the is the cable from the console plugged into ?

The PC or the fritz box via ethernet or USB cable?

ie is the computer connecting via USB (check usb connection) or fritzbox in which case check the fritzbox is forming a connection.(check fritzbox setings to see if console appears as a connected device)

Check the connections of the console settings default. ie Baud, parity etc (check in the manual)

I've got the same Davis weather station (x 7 years).

What kind of Davis interface device have you got?  IP, serial or USB?  Sorry if the question looks silly but I don't recognise the cable with the single glowing green LED in your photo.

The USB version was notorious for poor reliability, and the one I started off with proved that point.  I exchanged it for a serial (RS 232) device, which has worked flawlessly.  Of course, it's unlikely that your laptop has an RS 232 serial port.  (My weather server dates from the era when even laptops had RS 232 serial ports.)

My station uses weewx as its Web display software, and I found the assistance offered on the weewx board to be invaluable.  www.weewx.com

Hhmm Davis console is plugged into Fritz Lan2  via Ethernet but not showing in network. Baud settings etc seem correct

So its has a lan connection then.

Look in fritz settings for list of lan connected devices to see if it knows its connected to the console.

Have you tried disconnecting the console ethernet cable and/or turning console off to update the lan connection ?

Sometimes my TV ethernet connection just fails until I unplug it and reinsert it.

Thanks for the suggestion, gave it a go but no change. Fritz! just isn't finding it. Maybe it's the data logger that the Lan plugs into ??? but I have no way of testing such stuff although on boot of the console all the correct beeps happen when it does it's self check.

Did you previously run the console through a router? In original post you said connected console to PC.

I wonder if the Weather Station has a static IP, that was in the range of your old router (TP Link)?

Now that you have a new router, it has a different range. I think TP Links use 192.168.0.x as their range - what is the range of your Fritz?

The way to check would be to temporarily reconnect your TP Link to the weather station, and you laptop and see if you can see it? If you can, see if you can change it's IP address so it fits in the new range, or change the range on the fritz so it is the same as what the TP Link was.

good suggestion Fritz! is http://192.168.178.1/so not sure if that's still in range or not, but if it is I must be a bad aim. I no longer have the TPLink to check.
