Does anyone know of either software or a HW/SW combo that allows control of INDIVIDUAL app volumes within windows - preferably from a game controller for up/down, or even mapped keys would be ok.

Nirsoft SoundVolumeView seems perfect but it's not reliable (multiple instances of an app like MANY apps spawn will confuse it)

Nirsoft Nircmd changeappvolume seems to have similar issues.

The desired end case is a small mixer board that allows me to set volume easily AND OUTSIDE OF THE WINDOWS METHODS for a group of apps like:

- Game audio

- Discord audio chat

- Crew chief (racing sim addon)

- Buttkicker LFE audio

- Yet another overlay bit of software.

Some (most) games etc allow you to map volume up and down and this works for iRacing - but Discord doesn't allow a button to be bound for up/down volume which is criminal. Getting the soundmix right with that many permutations (and different types of cars etc) is non-trivial.

Suggestions welcome. I'd be happy to build a game controller with multiple encoders if I could find SW that would read them and reliably change the app volumes accordingly)

Cheers - N

Eartrumpet might be somewhere to start looking.

I haven't used it myself, but it looks like EarTrumpet might help: https://eartrumpet.app/

Eartrumpet looks like a good option, but unfortunately it's hotkey support is limited to just opening the various mixers etc, not changing volume :-(

I haven't done this, but I suspect AutoHotkey could fix this, maybe with the #IfWinActive or a similar command. That might be a bit of a rabbit hole to delve into.

It can control per device, not per app. If you mean that AHK could potentially manipulate the window elements of eartrumpet then that's way too hacky for me and I suspect it would break things in my use case :-(

I had done a bunch of looking and I really don't think a solution exists unfortunately - at least not one that reliably works. I do have a theoretical solution with a nirsoft utility but it just isn't reliable...
