When setting up a zigbee network, should I add devices closest to the coordinator first, then ones that will progressivly be placed further away or doesnt it make any difference? Does the network just automatically adjust?

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

if they're too far away they may need to route through those closer. (only powered deviced tend to be routers as well)....that probably answers the question. But if they can hit it direct I think they will.

There may be some network balancing, but I thought that was more a zwave thing.

I would add the ones closest to the co-ordinator first, I'd also add the powered devices (that act as routers) next, then your battery powered ones.

Some devices will adjust and automatically connect to the best links, Aqara apparently do not.

The biggest difference for stability and reliability for me have been:

Using an extension cable to move the co-ordinator away from other devices.
Choosing a channel that doesnt overlap my wifi - ZigBee and Wi-Fi Coexistence | MetaGeek

I have only being able to make zigbee reliable by putting multiple hubs around the place and pairing things to the closest one. As soon as I put any lamps that worked as repeaters the reliability tanked.

Using the tuya hubs I have no choice of channel and I have a massivly congested 2.4GHz wifi but that has never seemed to cause problems with things directly connected to the hub. Putting a mesh network of things in seems stupid when I have the whole place wired up and great wifi all over the place.
