Don't do it - it's OK on the ipad 2 but painfully slow on the iPhone 4 - suggest you find someone who's already upgraded and check out the performance before upgrading.

err... you mean that you have found it slow. I don't know percentages, but I would suggest that 'most' iphone 4 owners are finding iOS 7 just fine (I haven't seen the lines of pitchfork waving iPhone 4 owners around here).

There could be an initial slowness due to spotlight re-indexing items on the phone, or there could be settings on by default that are hogging resources that could be turned off, a restart or a forced reboot (hold sleep/wake button and home button - keep holding until Apple symbol shows) might help put things back in order, a restore may help the situation or as a last resort you could erase the phone, restore and set up as a new device and then manually add back all your content.

The last option is time consuming but a lot of people recommend doing this for any major update. No, you shouldn't have to, but there could be a couple of years worth of dodgy bits and pieces from app crashes, etc that get caught under the carpet... good time for a Spring clean. I'd bet you a fancy custard-filled cronut that you'll find iOS 7 slicker on a 4 than iOS 6 was.

Cheers,
Mike

The many people that have brought their phones in asking if we can downgrade plus my wife complaining about the perfornance plus the many phones weve seen that have signigicant lag on ios 7 lead me to suggest the above.

If you're happy with the performance then great but I stand by my original conment of trying out someone elses first - it may very well be that the OP will be perfectly happy too.

I agree that there seems to be no hard & fast rule that performance will be at a certain level, but I would be interested in knowing how many of the owners of laggy iPhone 4 owners have put in the time to troubleshoot the issue. ie. I believe that iOS 7 is not the issue necessarily, but some other conflict on the device.

What eye candy ... It now looks like my galaxy s4!

As to wife's iphone 4 ... Depending on the slowness thing ...

Does iphone 4 have less ram than ipad 2 ? Could that be the reason?
