My iPhone 11 rear camera has a crack in the wide angle lens. A Hamilton company Repair Tech has some good reviews. & say they can fix it for $60.00. Anyone had any experience with this crowd?

Cheers. Charlie

Are they a authorised Apple repair centre? If not then do not touch them

Visit the Apple website and find a authorised repair centre

I went to an Apple authorised repairer first. They said they can’t fix it and to get a new phone

There's nothing wrong with using third party repair options, as long as you know the risks involved.

As usual, caveat emptor.

@Mehrts There is nothing right in supporting them! They do not tell customers they are not authorised service agents and if you ask about using genuine parts they will always say " yes yes " we use genuine parts and it is nothing but lies!

Never trust them with your electronics especially mobile phones

If an authorised repairer can't fix it then the $60 offering will be a band aid fix that could have a whole lot of unintended consequences. You'd be better off putting the money towards a new device.

@CeeGee, Apple is in business to make $ so they want you to buy a new or refurbished device for the smallest of minor damage to their products hence they and their authorized agents tell you it is not fixable. Look at it logically. The lens cover has a crack, and they are not both a mechanical and electronic piece of hardware. If the reviews are good then get it replaced for $60 than forking out $1800 for a new model...

Do whatever you want to do man.

Coincidence that the apple 'right to repair' only starts from iphone 12 ? [cynical mode on]

This whole thread shows what's wrong with Apple and the delusion that an "authorised repair center" is the only way to fix it. Read up on right to repair and Louis Rossmann and you will learn how evil Apple really is.

@OP just keep in mind that the replacement may or may not be genuine but $60 is far better than $1400, IMO given that it is just the glass it should be more than fine, and also keep in mind that this is how Apple make money by intentionally making it hard to impossible to fix the product you purchased that you are supposed to own.

iFixit has the rear camera module for $69.99 USD, and while they certainly tack on their own margin, I'd be suspicious of that repair cost. The Apple Authorized repairer doesn't really have any excuse to not do it except wanting to get a sale on a new device I suspect.

With that said, a proper repair on an iPhone 11 might be a bit spendy, ConnectNZ is authorized and do a decent job on repairs, and they want about $120 for the first hour of work, I suspect they'd only charge you for an hour but then probably whack another $100 on for the part, you're looking at roughly $220 + postage.

Is it a base model or a Pro? If it's a base model and you can swing it, it might be time to look into an upgrade.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

The 'authorised repairer' in Hamilton has a very bad reputation (use to be good, but has gone downhill).  Complaints of poor workmanship and customer service are rampant, which sadly I have also experienced.  I also suspect it's not so much "can't" but "won't", perhaps because of some Apple rule.  Unless it's under warranty and you have no choice, I would send a repair to another Apple repairer, or go 3rd party .

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
