For those of you interested in security and privacy, the Apple FaceTime stream is not encrypted (or so it seems).

Connection to the XMPP server seems to be encrypted but communication stream between calling parties don't seem to be.

More information in a three parts blog series: Special look FaceTime (part 1: introduction), Special look FaceTime (part 2: SIP and Data Streams), Special look FaceTime (part 3: Call Connection Initialization).

Very, very interesting. It means that when the fixed world catches up with IP Voice everywhere, the concept of a 'moble' network becomes reduced to just another IP Access, network with certain performance parameters. Facetime should then seamlessly move from a WCDMA to WIFI to LTE world, keeping the application going.

Great for email.

Not so sure I will be walking around while video calling. Too easy to walk into a door.
