Let me just start by saying this isn't an advertisement of a position at a game company - this is me hopefully posting in the appropriate place on GZ for someone to work with / partner with on a project.

Okay, so a friend was going to work with me and we were going to try to make a small video game together for android and iOS. I have come up with the concept including skin and game mechanic. Now, he has had to abandon the project just because he has a family to feed and is busy with other work.

On the one hand this sucks for me, since I have put effort into designing the gameplay and making the necessary assets to make a prototype level, but I lack a Unity developer / programmer. On the other hand though, it's kind of a relief because I probably would prefer to work with someone who is a bit more experienced or to be frank, more talented, than the person I was going to be working with.

La la la, blah blah blah, you have heard this story a million times before, I am sure.

I am at a stage now where I am considering employing someone overseas to help me build the prototype, because talk is cheap. This can be done relatively quickly and cheaply because I can do all the level design using the assets I have already made, I just need the environment/mechanic in place which I then 'populate' and tweak from within Unity. I am pretty broke after Christmas however, so I am not rushing into this.

This game is designed to be VERY simple to pick up and play and for the player to get some level of achievement, but takes skill and effort to master. The controls are as simple as they come, no stupid faux-directional pad or buttons you have to press onscreen. No waving around your tablet in the air so that it can slip out of your hands and break, or so you can't see the screen properly.

What I want to do put out feelers to see if anyone is interested in taking something on part-time and developing this project with me from scratch, or is this unrealistic?

I just want to make a simple game that goes out into the world, makes a bit of money, then I use that as the basis for getting capital in the future, or even better, funding a version 2.0 of the game with the resources to develop it all of the ideas that are unrealistic to put in the first version.

That said though, do people need to see a playable prototype before they would be interested in having a conversation?

Given how easy the game is, maybe I could get some money together and employ someone to develop the whole game with me inside a month or two, but what I wanted to do was start with a project that cost nothing as a way of generating some income to pay for future development.

So, in other words, obviously I am not going to give anything away about the game here on geekzone, but I am just interested if there are people locally who are also looking for someone to partner with on some game projects.

What I can tell you is that I have a background in photography and film production, including producing and directing music videos (real ones that cost money and look professional - I know everyone says this about their stuff, but I was once asked by Nick Knight (international fashion photographer) after coming second in a competition that he and Alexander McQueen were running with Puma shortly before McQueen passed away). I have an MFA from Elam School of Fine Arts but I am looking for a change. I play a lot of computer games, I have ever since I was a child. Not only do I know the medium very well, I also know the market very very well, not least because in a lot of ways, I am the market. I have a very very clever marketing strategy for this project.
