How many do you want? I have one, but it's not Belkin ... worked fine on an XP machine using supplied driver, so assume will work on anything else too.

Don't go for the Belkin ones, they'll use a Prolific chip at best. Get something with an FTDI chip inside, especially if you want to use it under Windows Vista/7/8. nz.rs-online.com sells them at reasonable prices.

I have donated Belkin and tested it on XP/W7/W8 with my application which does not require data transfer but only raising logical levels on certain pins. ANd happy with that.
Drivers are available on manufacturer's site and Vista drivers work for W7/W8
Thanks for the link - but I do not consider prices in the range of $38 to $149 to be anywhere near reasonable when Belkin on eBay cost from $6 second hand to $25 Brand new.

Nothing wrong with the prolific chipset if you get a real one.

The bad rep comes from all the fakes from china. I would expect belkin are not using fakes.

That's right. I also have chineese one (X 340 something) with the drivers on a cd but antivirus is not happy with that driver :(. Cable works well though.
I've tried a bunch of chineese cables from Trademe which Chineese lady (in Mt Eden area) was selling for $5 - those were not working at all with the drivers supplied on CDs. Good that I've checked them at her place straight away - she took them back no problem.

Recently had experience with couple of USB OBDII cables from china where they put wrong chips inside :(

Ruku, this one is probably Chinese in origin, marked as an HL-340 unit.

I used it to connect a dial-up modem (special requirement) to a Win XP laptop, and had no problems at all.

Tom Doyle's web site (http://www.tomdoyletalk.com/2010/01/21/hl-340-drivers-rs232-usb-cable/) has heaps of drivers for these devices for many O/S's.

hl340 is my chip of choice for the cheap arduinos as no drivers needed, enumerates as standard USB device with drivers from windows update.

I went with the USB RS-232 that PBTech sell for a decent price (they all do the same job at the end of the day).

I saw a group I belong to, email sometime back about the driver or something causing issues if the cheap chip (which I think your trying to highlight), however I have had no issue with mine I brought some time back x2.

I am still hunting in the background of my mind for Belkin USB to Serial cables (WTD for <$10 each).
Those may be collecting dust in some IT departments.

Done tests of recent USB-to-serial donated cables (thanks guys).
Those tests are valuable for me as I now know what NOT to recommend to use with my application.

CH 340- does not work well :(
P9 - (Prolific) - does not work well :(
Both of above have the same issue of very quick voltage raise on one pin - which is not good
DSE (FTDI) - no drivers can be found :(

FYI: Hips of info online about recent FTDI drivers and MS autoupdate which "bricks" dodgy FTDI chips, some being used in other manufacturer's hardware

I would prefer something which would need zero customer support - e.g. Belkin
