Kia ora,

Selling an iPhone 12 Pro Max 128GB in Silver — it’s a sealed replacement I received from Apple under the CGA after my previous device failed.

It’s likely a refurbished unit, but Apple’s refurb replacements are excellent — they come with a brand new outer shell and battery, so it should look and feel just like new.

I upgraded to a newer phone while waiting for the replacement, so I don’t need this one anymore.

Given it’s a 2020 model and still sealed, I’m thinking around $700 is fair.

Pickup in Wellington, or I can courier it at your cost. Will pop it on Trade Me if there’s no interest here.

Cheers!

Just curious: how old was your device when it failed? Always good hearing CGA stories - good to note for any future claims

I purchased the phone new in November 2020, direct from Apple NZ.

I had the battery replaced at an Apple Store in Japan in mid-2024 - during this, they also replaced the display as they broke the original one taking it off. In March this year the digitiser intermittently stopped working, a forced restart would resolve it, then a month later it failed completely, even though there was no physical damage.

I didn't have high hopes Apple would cover it (especially since the 2024 repair was done outside of NZ, so not really CGA-applicable), but a friend who works for an Authorised Service Provider encouraged me to raise it with them. I think given they'd replaced the screen without me requesting it, when that part failed there was more leniency with their internal policies, despite the age of the phone.

It was a pleasant surprise to receive a replacement device. Had I been able to go the two week period without my phone, I'd have kept using this one, rather than upgrading!

Great outcome! I had an iPhone purchased in London (when I lived there) failed after I moved here.

They understood that CGA applies in NZ and that the UK has similar laws but they won't honor if the device cross-countries.
