Setting up a small 6-month project office at remote location. Please advise what is available and product spec if available.

Appreciate for other solution if you know one.

Linksys WRP400 could be an option. It will take a USB 3g stick. The list of compatable sticks is quite small though. Am out and about at the moment so will post the cisco web links later.

The MiFi devices are fantastic but my god they are rip off in NZ so I would recommend this device which is wireless N compatible, it has a WAN port just incase you have ADSL at any time and it can auto fall back to 3g or use 3g as the full time connection.

Compatible with Vodafone and Telecom devices - I have one personally and have used the MF636 and Sierra 885 with the device with no issues.

TopGlobal is available in New Zealand and they work with both Vodafone and Telecom USB or PCMCIA modems. I have one here and they work well.

Another alternative (which I currently use while traveling) is the Cradlepoint (http://www.cradlepoint.com/). The good thing about those is that you can configure it to use OpenDNS and effectively block access to sites by category, such as sex, gambling, games, etc - this would help you keep bandwidth usage low. They also work with both Vodafone and Telecom USB modems.

We looked at the MiFi for a project were are going but the price from memory was about $250 plus a USB Vodem but the one on your link is $499. From memory there are also linksys and Dlink versions way cheaper. Less than $200 plus USB modem.

the MiFi has a built in modem, you just put in the sim card and you're away - no usb stick needed and it's 7.2 capabile too (like the vodem pro), while the MiFi is a great device remember that the range is nowhere near what a normal wireless router is - basically if you're in the same room it's OK any further and it's a struggle.

Oh and remember the 5 device limit on the MiFi

Try looking at one of the netcomm devices. I have tried the N3g002W and the N3G005W one and both worked well i am also in the process of setting up some of the NTC models (cant remeber the exact one) and are very good also

cant remeber price but got mine from local ORB Dealer

The MiFi is a modem and wifi router all in one - you don't need a vodem stick - it has a sim slot in the device simply insert the sim and press the button and you're online.

I can't quite work out why your link above is much cheaper? because the MiFi at $499 is an all in one and 7.2HSDPA and HSUPA compatible, your link is just a router for $249 and add a vodem stick pro circa $200 = $449 only $50 cheaper but if you buy MiFi on a plan its $200 cheaper.

Another solution (more expensive but more versatile, and you can keep using it afterwards) is a 3G phone with wifi tethering - a rooted Android, jailbroken iPhone, Palm Pre, Nokia N900, etc - any one will do the trick with a few options available on each to do it.

Just my 0.02...

Or any wifi enabled 3g Nokia S60 mobile phone and a piece of software called joikuspot. This is around 15 dollars I think.
