SteveON: The issues you describe are the same on all providers. I moved from 2d 10 months ago because 1 in 100 sms would not be received. Guess what their response was? For me to tell them the exact date and time the texts were sent. I mean honestly, why should I have to go to all the effort when I am the customer? 10 months on telecom; no missing texts, 4g and now more data/min than my older 2d plan. Very happy.

SMS is not guaranteed and provided as a "best effort" service - which I seem to recall you've already been told on here previously.

I'd say a 1% failure rate with SMS is pretty good. I used to lose about 20% of the messages that I sent, hence why I stopped using SMS altogether in favour of more modern alternatives.

You have got to be joking. When you have providers like vodafone and telecom who hardly drop sms, I should accept less than par? Get off it, it should just work. When one provider is horribly unreliable compared with other experiences I've had, why is this a good excuse?

I'm not the only one of my friends who feel this way. I send at least 2000 sms per month.

If the message you're trying to send is so critically important, why are you relying 100% on SMS? See above, it's not guaranteed, on any provider.

If a company doesn't do things properly, you don't get what you pay for, and you decide to leave, I suggest instead of paying an exit/contract break fee you take them to disputes or the telecommunications commissioner. You shouldn't pay for their screw ups.

2 degrees PR seems to have a great willingness to help and sort things out, and usually manages it quite well, but until you go public 2 degrees (and many or even most other companies) aren't always great at solving problems.

quandum: Hello OP,

I completely agree, and share your pain.

I am still having a similar problem with my business account. We have 10 connections and most of them are set up wrong.
I am still to receive the much over promised service the sales team promised.

It is incredibly frustrating dealing with the call centre, who don't seem to care, or follow up to a resolution.

Apart from the billing issues, I have repeatedly raised issues with calls dropping for no reason.
This has a serious business impact, and I am considering moving to Telecom as I simply cannot afford the interruption, and poor (no) communication between the sales and the provisioning teams, combined with the lack of care from customer care.

The only thing that seems to be guaranteed about SMS is that the Telco will charge you for the SMS.

surfisup1000: These kind of stories seem to come from all operators.

As you are leaving 2 degrees due to service & billing issues, someone from teleocm/vodafone will be moving to 2 degrees for the same reasons.

I left Vodafone for 2degrees for the pans at the time that were so much better, I had no issue with Vodafone billing or service after years of use.

Is 2degrees planning on going 4G? Maybe that will put more weight back in their favour.....

I get that it's a best of service. However when their best of, is total pants. Then consumers should go elsewhere.

My generation was bought up using SMS as a communication tool, SMS is less invasive and it's how we communicate. I'm 29 and have been using sms since I was 16.

I'm sorry that I have a social life.

I totally agree.  I left Vodafone because their service was rubbish (constant dropped calls).  We have number portability now so there is no reason for consumers to put up with these type of problems.

Luxury, used to dream of using it SMS, in my day we had chisel messages onto wild bears, in snow, with bare feet, while having our legs chewed at by weasels, young people today, don't know how good they've got it.

I'm 36 and have been sending sms since before I had a handset that could send them. Remember that South African website that you could send free sms from circa 1998-1999? My first cell which could 'text' was a D-AMPS Ericsson flip, but could only receive texts! I have personally had as much sms unreliability on or from all the telcos.

I'm 32 and used SMS regularly over a ten year period from about 2001 to 2011 after which I moved onto the more modern alternatives discussed above. I found that it always worked well between parties on the same telco, but inter-carrier messages have never really worked properly since Telecom and Vodafone set up their interface around 2005.

Quite frankly: 2d's response seems much more reasonable to me than your response.

I'm familiar with some of the software used to operate their network. Expecting somebody to find such a non-obvious problem in a telco network without a date/time is comparable to asking somebody to find a needle in a haystack with a blindfold on. Then there is the unwritten assumption is that the fault resided with 2d.

I'm glad you're happy with Telecom.

Well guess what....

Just got charged for the data pack AGAIN. It is not showing as active on the website and sending "stop 3GB" to 233 does nothing....

FFS! it is case sensitive, that is retarded.

I thought the add button turns to a stop button on the website when it was recurring, at the moment there is absolutely NO WAY to tell if the data is recurring until you get the next bill.

On the website it tells you:
"See your 2degrees homepage to view your current Value Packs. You can unsubscribe from any current Value Packs by selecting the STOP button below, or if you are not logged in to Your 2degrees, you can do this anytime by texting STOP and the pack name to 233."

It most certainly was not showing a stop button, they were all "Add" buttons. and clicking the link to "your 2degrees homepage to view your current Value Packs" shows you nothing about the value packs you currently have...

I texted "Stop 3gb" to 233 and expected it to stop, but no, you have to text "STOP 3GB" even though every smartphone this day and age will auto correct the capitalisation....
