taylorjamesbarr: Tech came out today, I wasn't home but someone else was. Unfortunately the same guy who did the original install.
The tech had no idea what he was meant to be installing and left within 5 minutes of arriving.
I'd much rather do the install myself as I have the IDC connectors and can do the job myself.

Oh god.
That's so wrong on so many levels.
The rules as I understand it (being a tech and all) are that we are to NEVER have a join in the cabling outside of a jackpoint, or demarc, and that a VDSL install must ALWAYS have a master splitter installed in the demarc (ETP or Master Jackpoint).
Looking at what your "tech" has done, a new line is going to need to be run to the jackpoints, and probably for the VDSL jackpoint too.
I would be taking that photo and sending it to Chorus, because that's not on.
Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

hio77: urm... where the master filter....
taylorjamesbarr:
The issue with my house is that it's physically attached to the neighbours one via our garages and our phone line runs through their entire house through the garages into mine. There is no ETP for me and god only knows where it is on their house.
The jackpoints in the house are wired in the most screwed up way. That wire headed off to existing jackpoints goes up into a wall to the top level and feeds a jack before coming back down to the living room and feeding two jacks on that same wall. makes NO SENSE.
I feel like it would make so much more sense to wire from bottom to top, not bottom-top-bottom.
The technician clearly has no idea what he is doing and he even tried to use my old standard BT Jack for VDSL. I want to request a new tech :/

Last time i checked, it was chorus policy to send the tech back out as they know what they did wrong...
Don't know if it's the same tech they're required to send back out, but they definitely send it back to the service company and I know two of them do send the same tech back.
It sounds like a bit of an odd install - not insurmountable but it would be nice to go have a look around the site prior to declaring what can and can't be done. I'd suspect the best method of approach would be to (assuming a shared lead-in cable from the neighbours), would be to have two separate ETPs at the entry point on their end - one for each install, and then run the cabling out from there and put a second ETP on the outside of your part of the house, so that the internal wiring can be isolated at least.

I wish I could get a separate ETP on my house because then it would make life so much easier. Especially for when Fibre comes to my area.
That's gonna be a SH** fight to organise and figure out. But alas, there comes the money factor and I don't really want to fork out for a new ETP.
Anyone have a clue as to how I'd send that photo to Chorus in order for them to see their tech stuffed up majorly and to send a different guy?
Social media, or they might have a presence on this forum - I've definitely seen them around.
