nzkiwiman: I thought this thread was about stuff in their webstore being on sale .. ie a cheap new phone
MikeB4:kawaii:mattwnz:MikeB4: A gut feeling, intuition that's all, time maybe for the venture capital shareholders to move on. Lets see what 2016 brings. Doesn't mean they are on the block, sometimes its just time for a change.I guess at some stage someone wants to make some real money off the business. But I can't see them really fattening up the business getting it ready to float or sell. They did buy an ISP last year, but they don't seem to be in real growth mode. Their prepay pricing is also being left behind a bit. But we do need 2degree otherwise we have a duopoly which has proven not to be good for consumers pricing. A pity the government allowed a duopoly to occur in the super markets, and now Campbell Live is gone, no media is doing price comparisons as to whether we are paying too much in NZ.
I'd also say that given the low interest rates and lackluster economic results in the US and UK I'm not surprised that businesses are looking for countries that are at least providing modest returns vs. next to nothing. That being said, who would they sell it to? is it profitable? would they do a partial float? maybe sell their steak to Optus in Australia to have a presence in Australia and New Zealand?
I did suggest a possible buyer earlier, that being Vocus

Do they have the sort of cash though, I can't see it being cheap. Also does 2 degrees even have nationwide 4g coverage, if not they are going to have to make a lot of investment upgrading things? Spark and vodafone would be the obvious types of buyers for it, but I can't see them being allowed to buy it due to competiton. Although Woolworths were allowed to buy countdown, when we used to have 3 big players in the supermarket game, creating just 2 main providers. Was that good for consumers, becuase I recall at the time, it was said to only have minimal to no effect on consumers?
GEOMAX: Maybe time for Vodafone to grow into the number one service provider ?
Make a Vodafone Skinny and the rest into their Broadband mix.
Maybe Chorus left with the dregs in the split from Telecom's need something to replace the dying copper network.
Countless options all revolve around being profitable in the long term.

SaltyNZ: Why would either Spark or Vodafone want to buy us? You may as well suggest 2degrees buy Spark.
BlinkyBill: Focus and 2D are two completely distinct companies with distinct exec team capability. They are too dissimilar to be a good fit with one another. I can't see Vocus purchasing 2D - their own published business objectives indicate this.

Well, yes, but I was thinking more of the 'what would Spark/Vodafone gain from doing so?' perspective. Nothing, really. And (in the world where it doesn't matter if we could afford it) we wouldn't gain anything the other way round either.
networkn:
Yah ok. I think it's a little disingenuous to suggest 2D would get nothing from buying of the two though, 2D would have a LOT more to gain than the other way around.

If you mean 'coverage', then we're building that anyway - only constrained by the money which would also prevent us buying a bigger competitor. If you mean 'customers', then we're doing much better than Vodafone or Spark want us to already. It was pretty cruisy when they ignored or laughed at us. It's much more fun now that we're stealing their lunches. :-D
networkn:
I am not picking on 2D here, but I think you are being a little funny about it :)
