ISP provisions the IP address be it static or dynamic, so you should NEVER be selecting static IP option. 2D published WAN settings are DHCP/IPoE with vlan 10. PPPoE with vlan 10 certainly works on their business connections and I assume may still work on residential.
Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.
Goosey:
Why would a NZ ISP send you a router with a non NZ plug.
Do you think you have mixed them up, in the period of time I.e. the original power adapter is still laying around somewhere…
Yep it's weird, but I had not opened the box until today. They posted it out and I put it in the cupboard straightaway, thinking that it was not as 'fast' as the existing AC1600 from MyR. However the cable from the power adapter was not wound up by a twistie, (as they usually are) so it wasn't a sealed box.

Hi there
thanks for the confirmation, much appreciated.

Update - just for completeness
Checked the brand of the power adapter that was in the box (without a twistie) and it is a TP-LINK brand, of which I have no other equipment. So along with the fact that the router itself wasn't in a plastic bag either and the box wasn't sealed. I can honestly say that 2D did supply me with a UK version, way back when they took over from MyR. Crazy!
Well that’s interesting.
if 2D have recycled a device and not tested and tag is up to date it prior to sending back out then that’s a concern.
i was of the understanding that any rental / hire equipment has a mandate under some regulations to be tested after use before being sent back out to someone else (as per what happens in the rental/hire industry).

"OMG" the rabbit hole deepens.....
The TP-link router is fine with the LAN connections, but it will drop the 2.4Ghz wifi for no reason, at any time of day.
Every device (18 in all) will stop working at the same time.
5Ghz is fine.
So it seems to me that 2D's also sent me out a returned/faulty unit. That would explain the wrong power adapter.
------------------------------------
Can anyone suggest a 'very reliable' router, for 2D (900/500) fibre with four gigaports, dual band wifi and preferebly wall mountable and in-built antennae???
also good distance for the 2.4 to reach the garage approx 25 m as the crow flies.
(the old technicolour unit fitted nicely in the wall space I had for it)
But of course, if necessary, I can work with a table top model.
Anyone!!?
cheers CD
correction - 15m as the crow flies
Sounds like an issue with NAT ALG on the Technicolor if you're willing to go back and configure that (turn it off for all protocols).
Or it might be that those Technicolors had issues with the WAN down spoofing feature when turned on, needs to be turned off in the CLI afaik.
And the dropping of 2.4 GHz might be a band steering issue?

Hi there yitz
I have gone back to the technicolor for now, so first what you are saying I should check in the settings.? cheers CD
update. I should mention that I don't have accfess to the adminstrator advanced settings.
Assuming it's this router with admin pages that look like this:
https://www.hotshot.nz/technicolor-wifi-hub-tg789vac-v2-hp/
Maybe give these instructions a try:
https://support.jola.co.uk/portal/api/kbArticles/119704000011842230/attachments/7juu6750f661bbfe045ce824ec06a2e5e8f7a/content?portalId=d24afc00ed408dd3de31ca9431cfdb88ca4cb349a3cae4551559198a4dcd9882
I think you can safely disable NAT helpers (ALG) for all the protocols, but RTSP is the main streaming protocol I think.
Also, consider you might be hitting a maximum device limit? It sounds like you have lots of devices connected. Could be worth testing with less devices connected.

Hi there yitz, again and thanks.
there you go. I would not have thought I would have to do any of those changes, who or what is 'HotShot Fibre'? and "PrePay Broadband" sounds like I need to have a subscription.?!!!
the connection seems to be more snappy now, and at this moment I can download a large torrent and stream my radio stations and stream plex to my family. And no even I thought of a rebuffering or hitch.
I have 17 wifi devices amd 10 ethernet on the local.
Q. why did MyRepublic not mention this setup? have I been du**ed?
btw adding the "/?debug=1" to the admin page address does nothing for me, no extra headings, so no access to the NAT protocols.. seems that all I have done is change the connection type.
cheers CD

Ok it looks like the MyRepublic firmware is a more locked down variant then.
To test the Technicolor DNS WAN down spoofing theory you could manually specify 2degrees DNS server addresses in your operating system TCP/IP settings and monitor whether the issue crops up again. Change it back to Automatic if you notice no change.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/f21a9bbc-c582-55cd-35e0-73431160a1b9
202.180.64.10 primary and 202.180.64.11 secondary are one set of 2degrees DNS server addresses.
Otherwise I agree with others might be time for something new.

Thanks again for the pointers. I think that having reset the router has helped the situation, cause I swiitched back to 2D and that connection seems quicker too. Perhaps the router will get booed down after a while, and the symptom will return.
Talking of a replacement, do you have any suggestions?
I was looking at the TP-LINK Omada ER706W ax3000 gigabit vpn router. Should be a better quality and more longterm unit.
I had never heard of HotShot b4 today, thought there must be some small ISP's around but you never about them.
anyway cheers for your help. CD

Most obvious reason is that MyR didn't support PPPoE.
