wreck90: I just don't know why people go with Orcon.

My brother joined them a little while ago - I advised him this is the last thing he should do.

However, he proceeded and as I predicted he has had no end of problems. Currently, his biggest issue is speed - he is on ADSL2+ but only getting 1/4 of the speed he paid for.

This is not in hicksville either - it is in Auckland.

The speed you pay for is best effort up to 24 megabit. While some ISPs are delivering well under that (cough slingshot cough) orcon have been pretty consistantly good on my sisters connection.

I left Orcon around 2 years ago and still got billed for another 2 months after I had left, had some trouble getting credited for it and swore I would never go back or recommend them to anybody. Seems nothing's changed much sense then!

nate: To be fair, by your own admission you've made a lot of mistakes in this process (forgetting to record the track n trace number of the modem), and that has put you in this predicament

Thats not actually his mistake, the contract of carriage is between Orcon and the courier, as Orcon paid for the courier. However when you take the courier parcel into the post office, they will give you a printout with the track and trace number on it. Courier picking up parcels should do the same.

This is solely orcons issue, not yours, and it sounds like there are too many cooks in the kitchen. Sounds like they will sort it out in the end, but you will want to make them provide you with a baycorp print out, to make sure it hasn't affected your credit rating.

duncanblair: Hi Fabian,

Sounds like there were mistakes made on both ends of this. I certainly apologise on our behalf for those mistakes that we made.

It also sounds like we are in the process of sorting this out, however if it is not resolved to your satisfaction please feel free to get in touch with me directly to ensure that your credit rating is not adversely affected.

Just interested why you believe mistakes were made at both ends?  From what the poster has said, I can't see anything wrong that they have done. I believe the courier issue is Orcons, as Orcon buys and sends out hte courier pack, so the contract of carriage is with Orcon, thus Orcon should be recording the track and trace number before sending it out.

Just make sure you note your track and trace number.

One of the biggest things that i couldn't believe was that they owned up to me when i was on the phone to them saying that the department which receives the modem doesn't always tick the box in the system to say that you have returned the modem.
I was lucky that i got a nice lady on the phone on the right day.
I would after one week of sending the item, ring them up and confirm.

p.s. always remember that when you ring up CSRs, always start off by asking how their day is, you'll be amazed how well the phone call can go from there.

If you get a letter from baycorp you need to advise them it is under dispute as soon as you can so they cant report it to other places that do credit inquires on you.

Dont pay anything for the amount as they have unacceptable terms on their payment forms that paying anything is accepting full liability for the debt. While you can get out of that legally, they will just string you along more because of it. Once you are in a position of not needing finance its easy enough to tell them to go get ***ed and you dont care ;)

What speed did he pay for?

I'm with Orcon unbundled and I get greats speeds whenever I want.   I haven't had too many problems with them, so I recommend them to anyone that asks.

Supposedly full speed.

He has tried to resolve this with them, but they constantly avoid replying to his emails.
