Sorry guys, have been busy at work for the last few weeks.

I didn't ask my friend to report the lost phone in the end. I was so busy at work and I bet she is busy looking after her kids. It would not be fun to tow all your kids to the police station just to report a stolen phone. =-P

Anyway, good to know that Telecom, VF and 2degrees are not sharing the same database of stolen phones. Might be my phone is now blocked on all network now (if they migrate all the existing records from all 3 telcos).

2D are starting fresh from 9th December, any phones blacklisted prior to Dec 9th 2013 from Telecom of Vodafone will NOT be blacklisted on the 2D network, if you want it blacklisted tell 2D them IEMI

Unfortunately some people may try to maliciously block another IMEI which is what we are trying to avoid.

Cheers

This. You can snoop IMEIs, and report them stolen to have someone else blocked. That's just bad.

AKLWestie: Just spoken with Vodafone and they are happy to block the device on their end. Good job Vodafone, you guys are heaps better than 2degrees.

I guess it's true that you get what you pay for in life then :)

Good job VF, and OP, glad you have partially resolved your issue.

When the industry blacklisting is in place (hopefully soon) it will resolve these issues.

This is a catchphrase from the last century.
Unfortunately its been so long now that I don't believe it will ever happen here in New Zealand.

I had a phone blocked in South Africa in the late 90's. Talk about being behind the times.

The Telcos have said they were working on it and as of last week its up and running. Expecting one country to have it working just because another one does is unrealistic its a complex feature just like number portability is.

Also why couldn't OP call 2D customer care instead of having to ask on a forum. Seems lazy to me

Agreed. I'm pretty impressed to say the least. Well done to 2degrees and the other telcos.

My only gripe with this system is what I wrote in the other thread. The blocking system is pretty useless if I don't have a network operator.

If I want my phone blacklisted it should not have anything to do with who my local network operator is.

This is a problem because

- It gives the mobile operator, ie 2degrees the opportunity to not do anything about a blocking request.
- It gives the mobile operator the oportunity to deny your request. (based on anything, ie you need to supply this this and now this...)
- who knows if the operator can unblock a phone.

I should be able to block a phone even if it has never been used in NZ. Ie a brand new phone bought from a shop.

At the end of the day I as the phone owner should own that blocking request. Not a network operator.
