lol it does not really matter... 2degrees/vodafone use 900/2100mhz and xt uses 850mhz They each have a mix of the ranges and 2degres has the least; so umm yeah go with that.

I think the fact that 2d own some 900 spectrum (2 10MHz chunks) is at least useful knowledge...

Don't forget that all three have 2100 MHz each as well (15+15MHz) and also all three have 1800MHz although Telecom only uses thiers for fixed point to point links not mobile. And then there's the 2500/2600MHz allocations (LTE?).

I Saw on Stuff over the weekend that Vodafone were about to major overhaul their mobile broadband prices. I presume that 2degrees are still some months away from making an announcement about 3g/data plans so Vodafone intends to grab people who may otherwise be waiting?

Where can I find this? I'm wanting to find something between $10 per month (100MB isn't enough) and the full on plans which are way too expensive. For example XT has a 240MB option which is more what I'm after....

But the casual rate is still 50c? or is the casual rate now 10c too?
EDIT: just saw the casual rate is $1 per MB after the first 10MB for a $1 is this new too or has it always been $1?

if that is the case there is no point having the 100Mb plan, unless you want to get a free Vodem when you sign up for 24 months.

Something else is going to have to change, i guess we will have to wait and see or just post speculation/dreams/fantasies to fill out the time.

If 2D can give me 60 mins of call time, no restrictions, 100 texts (again no restrictions), and 250MB of 3G data (including when roaming outside of main centres) for around $50/mth then I will sign up on-account.

Data rates run like this:

$1/10MB
$10/100MB
$29.95/512MB

then on account:

$50/1GB (double it for another $10)
$70/3GB (double it for another $10).

So, we have the half gig for $30... does that not fit?

All this is from Vodafone's mobile broadband page.

cheers

Paul

Hey Paul,
Yup I'm aware of the 500MB plan but it looks like its only on prepay (or am I wrong), I am on plan and it seems that the only options are either 100MB or 1GB?

lol, roam, how much will the data be $10/meg?

I doubt it would be cheap.

More importantly you can't really use an international roaming SIM as a true indicator of how our network performs. Without writing another 5-post monster, there are 2 elements required for packet data, the SGSN and the GGSN.

You always use your local SGSN - so, whenever logged into 2degrees as a 2degrees user OR an inbound roamer, you use the 2degrees SGSN.

However, you use your home network GGSN. And that is in another country, linked to us via GRX.

If you speedtest against iHug in Auckland using, say, an Orange UK SIM, all your data is backhauled from Auckland, to the UK, and then back to Auckland again to get to iHug, and then back to the UK and back to Auckland to return to your handset.

That won't really give you a great indication of how well our network will really perform for 2degrees subscribers.

What a waste of data... I didn't realise it was like that. I would have thought the data would stay within the country and the billing info would be sent to the home network rather than that kind of mess.

Even worse when you realise it's all about the billing. These commercial requirements, however valid from THAT perspective, are enormously wasteful and inefficient.
