Definitely looks like a line issue somewhere. Might be best to speak to your RSP to go through your options.

Yes, I will contact slingshot. I just did an windows update, restart etc and then it said this..... and it hadn't been on for 9 minutes

----

Mod Edit: Combining threads:

Following on from my previous thread, where I thought everything was fixed and running perfectly again..... I discover this morning some strange stats on the dsl information tab of my router/modem.

Thinking that once again the phone might be causing the issue (despite it being the one that was working perfectly yesterday) I once again disconnect the phone/internet via line filter from the jack point and plug the modem directly into the jack point. Exactly as I did yesterday.... Yesterday or the day before.... that gave me a great connection. Today when I did it, the connection was Terrible! 1st pic.

I realise I have to ring slingshot so put all cables back to how they were, with the modem and phone connected into the line filter and the line filter into the jack point. I re do the dsl information tab just to see and low and behold it is back to normal. 2nd pic

How the Flip can this be?

Slingshot are trying to say it could be my modem that is causing the problem. They say they can see it is dropping out all the time. This is the first time in all my time on Broadband this has happened.

My modem is a Huawei HG659b

I have two other modems but they are REALLY old and no where near as good as this HG659b one. So I can't see the point in attempting to use them.

Can anyone tell me what Slingshot 'monitoring' my connection for 24 hours means? The tech lady was really hesitant to send a technician out even though I explained in HUGE detail all that I have already done thanks to you guys on here helping me. I also told the tech lady that the copper line to my house, underground has a mend in it that was done many many years ago and maybe that underground mend has deteriorated. We have had some VERY heavy rain the last few days.

And please. NO talk about moving to Fibre! That was well and truly covered in my earlier post.

Combined threads - please discuss here. You don't need a whole new thread on this subject.

Also I'm starting the "talking about fibre" thing again. I understand the problem is you're getting a good deal, but seriously is it worth it considering the amount of work you've had to do in order to get a stable connection? Fibre is the future, you should invest in your future and it is actually only a few dollars more.

Skinny for example - https://www.skinny.co.nz/broadband - $73/mo for their basic fibre plan, 3 months free for a stable, faster connection.

ADSL had its day but Fibre is just so much better and doesn't have these issues.

I know you are just trying to help, but on fixed income IE benefit, with no ability to work to gain more money, every penny counts. Up until this issue my connection has been very reliable. The last couple of times I had issues it was because Chorus people made mistakes that affected me. In all my years of dial up and adsl there has never been a problem with the wiring or stuff in my house, it is always an outside problem.

Well, the Skinny deal works out to $54.75/mo over 12 months with the 3 months free. It is actually cheaper than your current deal, for Fibre. There are actually comparable deals but you've just got to look for them. Skinny also offer wireless options, for example $50 per month for Unlimited. All are more reliable and faster than your current solution.

Is that with a home landline and caller display? When i looked, and i have.... everything is at least $15-20 more per month. And the speed wouldn't be of any benefit to me anyway. Wireless is not possible. No cell reception.

I am on the site from the link you provided. I put my address in.  No where can I find an option to add a landline, which I must have. As I keep trying to tell everyone there is no cell reception and wireless is not Available! FFS!

If not Skinny, there are providers who do landlines (Voyager is one that comes to mind).

Have a search around and have to talk to some providers, see if someone can do you a deal for broadband + landline. I hear you when you say you can't get mobile coverage (the topography of your area works against you), but you never what might happen if you ask around. Definitely no harm in trying :)

That's a very important piece of the puzzle. As mentioned back here the other possibility was that plugging in any phone was just causing a fault elsewhere on the line to appear. Given the water, that's a pretty good suspect.

Is the phone working OK at the moment?

I'd suggest getting Slingshot to monitor for 24 hours - it will have shown a lot of recent disconnects because of the troubleshooting you were doing, so make sure you're not unplugging / rebooting anything while they monitor. Make a few phone calls as well because the phone is interacting with the fault. Make sure to tell Slingshot about any noise on phone line too.

Maybe just ask to be put on a profile with high interleaving (error correction). It can make the connection immune to some types of noise at the expense of some speed and slightly increased latency.

In terms of faults, I wonder what the threshold for line drops outs is to get a technician out these days?

I've already been on Glimp, and every other broadband compare site I can find and no one can do anything for me that isn't $15-20 more per month. I"m not interested in something that might work out the same price for 12 months cos they offer 3 months free or something and then the price jumps up again after that.

I will be attempting to qualify for the 111 emergency thing when the time eventually comes.

For others reading, this PRICE and having a LANDLINE is the only consideration I am concerned about. Speed is irrelevant to me as my current adsl has been fine up until now. And once this issue is fixed there is no reason to suggest it won't be fine again.

Just off a phone call. The call was mostly perfectly fine but then at times there were intermittent humming noises or some kind of weird echo kind of noise. It was picking up some interference from somewhere, but not all the time. Yes, Slingshot are monitoring for 24 hours. I realised this morning that I must have been getting drop outs due to the time stamps on the dsl info page not being correct. This is how it looked just now while I was on the phone talking. Back up to normal. Yet earlier this morning it was going bad again.

A setting at the exchange where a certain level of redundant bits are added to the transmission to make the circuit more tolerant to noise and therefore less drop outs. I'm not sure if it can be requested manually these days it is supposed to all be managed centrally by something called Dynamic Line Management. It may or may not help depending on the type of noise and fault.
