I hope the answer is the second option.

Signed up for naked VDSL with Snap on Friday and the Fritzbox 7390 was delivered by courier this morning. I was told by a Snap support tech that my install date isn't until 5th March, so there's no real sense of urgency here, but I can't help noticing there doesn't seem to be any way to connect the DSL/TEL port of the router to a telephone jack?

In total the box contained the router itself, the power cable, two yellow standard ethernet cables and the installation guide sheet. The guide makes reference to a "white DSL cable" but my box contained no such cable. Is this an item the Chorus tech is going to bring or am I missing something I'm supposed to have?

Should have it I'd guess, but its a common cable, use the one from your existing router. (I assume you have one :) )

Think you'll find the Fritz! has a standard RJ-45 8 pin connector for the DSL line.  So just when they install it get them to put in a standard RJ-45 Jack for the DSL, and use a standard patch lead.

I don't sadly, as I've always used cable modem before now and this is the first time I've moved into an area where cable isn't available.

Cripes. Disconcerting start to my Snap experience.

I don't think you read my post.  You should be able to just use one of the standard patch leads that were included.

Please accept my apologies, I wrote my last reply before you made yours.

 

I confess I don't see how this is possible as the wall jacks in my house are of the standard British BS6312 type that most New Zealand houses have (see image link below), and cannot take an RJ-45/ethernet cable.

You will have a new RJ45 jackpoint as part of your VDSL install.

There are situations where the Chorus tech won't install a new RJ-45. In my case, I have combined BT jack and TV coax faceplates. In this case the tech just repurposed the BT jack as a dedicated DSL jack.

In this case I had to use the RJ-11 left over from my other ISP ADSL connection, as it does fit into the RJ-5 jack on the modem. I definitely would have preferred to have the dedicated RJ-45 jack and twister pair, so I could avoid the non-twisted cable and perhaps dodgy RJ-11 in RJ-45.

Put it this way: they are paid to do the full installation.  If you agree that they don't have to, that's on you, but you should really insist on the job that's been paid for.

It seems like some installers are cutting corners, especially with VDSL installs, and the end result is a less than optimal connection.

Well I didn't really like the idea of some Chorus guy taking saws to my nice new walls and probably making a dogs breakfast of it, that's the reason I let him repurpose the BT jack. I'm more than capable of changing it myself if I need to.
