I am already on Fibre already with home phone line; not happy with my current provider so consider to switch..

Currently provider gave me a Huwai HG659 router. The connection is a CAT6 from the ONT to the HG 659. From HG639 telphone line plug back to the telephone jets so all my telephone jets are connected.

I have checked out all the routers offered by MR but they are just "pure router" and have no telephony ports..

Now question is, since I want to keep my telephone line..should / could I continue to use HG659? (I spot that my telephone number appears in the router seeting so I suspect the router is configured somehow (rather than given by ONT or somewhere else?)

Also, any one has experienced in switching fibre provider? I read from MyRepublic web site and i have to do all the comms @@ any advices?

MR uses the ONT's internal ATA so should be a simple matter of connecting your line to the ONT's phone 1 port when you switch.

Thanks. So is each provider different? what you are saying is that OTN basically know my telephone number?? or MR (Chorus) has to do something changes the OTN?

Yes you can use the same router. You may need to reconfigure it.

For phone, all you need to do is to move the phone cable from the router to the ONT and it will work fine. Easy.

DO NOT say anything to Vodafone if you don't want any trouble. Switch to MR first, make sure your fibre and phone is up and running with them, then call Vodafone to cancel.

The ONT is the fibre box - looks like this:

When MR take the porting request they'll port the number over to the ONT for you, you just need to plug your phone line into the POTS1 port:

Cool.. thanks heaps guys! It looks like the technician just need to get the cable to POTS1 to telephone circuit.

@michaelmurfy, the first picture you posted, just want to confirm that you are either on naked boardband or with vodafone, as I notice you dont' have anything on POTS1 - just out of interest why Vodafone would have a different setup..

Was it a particular experience you had with Vodafone when you switch over to another one from them? I have been reading post and see how other people lost their connection and telephone line during the switch.

No this is an example. I've never been with Vodafone. I don't have home phone.

Signed up and got router delivered. Haven't switched over yet until few days later... now got me thinking - i have my existing router and I want to continue to use it... am I correct to assume that ONT (or through the ONT) my existing router will be assigned automatically an IP address anyway? I understand that MyRepublic uses DHCP reserved for "Static IP" (and I have paid for it), so I guess if its through ONT then I don't have to enter an IP address in the router..

Automatic IP will work fine. Note that technically speaking the ONT doesn't give out IP addresses. The ONT merely connects your router to your ISP's servers which does the IP assigning.

What the Chorus network will do is that it will insert your line's number into the packets you send, your ISP picks up on that and assigns you the specific IP addresses.

Now just got switched over. As expected, they wired a RJ11 from my telephone loop and then connected to POT1.

All is good, except one thing, myrepublic told me it will take around 2 to 5 days to port over the phone number, which I wasn't expecting that, anyone having the same experience?

PS. Incoming not working, but out-going call works. They have explained to me and I totally understand that...

I got MR a year ago and details are hazy but 2-5 days sounds familiar. It took a bit longer I think as when moving from ADSL to fibre Chous managed to disconnect our next door neighbour instead of us, which didn't help. There was a bit of fiddling about for a few days as well, but can't remember what about. Anyway, wasn't too bothered at the time.
