I'm using fibre and intend upgrading my slingshot provided Netcomm NF4V to the Netcom NF17ACV. If I copy the settings backup folder from the NF4V onto the new NF17ACV will I be good to go? ... Or will i have to spend hours talking to Slingshot.

You may need to update the modem firmware to the latest, then use the Basic Setup wizard should do the trick...

Is this naked broadband or do you have a phone service with them (VoIP)?. I would think the modem would validate a uploaded configuration file for hardware model/version so if you are trying to copy the VoIP config it probably won't work.

Thanks. I'll download the firmware in anticipation and when modem arrives this week i'll give that a go. Do you know if Slingshot will still need access on some level?

I don't think Slingshot need access to the modem for naked broadband internet.

You may want to take the time to double check whether they use PPPoE or DHCP/IPoE but it is a tagged WAN interface. I think it is the former and they use port authentication so just a generic username of firstcontact@slingshot.co.nz with any password is needed.

There's a guide here on how to extract SIP credentials from the saved configuration file for Orcon's NF4V. Haven't tried this myself so not sure if it is still 100% applicable or works for Slingshot.

Worst case you may need to keep the NF4V as the primary router and have your new NF17ACV plugged in behind it... for its wireless I assume.

For a double NAT setup, connect your NF17ACV WAN (blue) port to one of the LAN ports on the back of the NF4V. Run the Basic Setup wizard and choose Ethernet WAN, IP over Ethernet for the WAN mode step, then Obtain IP address automatically.

You could also do a bridged setup by turning off the LAN DHCP server, setting a LAN IP of the NF17ACV to the same range as the NF4V then connecting the LAN ports of the devices together. The NF4V Wi-Fi can then be turned off.

Hey thanks Y for your help. I emailed Slingshot for psw and settings for the phone and they rang and told me it wasn't possible and that I would need to bridge as that is what he had done. Anyway I set the fibre up... mucked around with phone settings guessed the pswd, as person I spoke to wouldn't give it. Really didn't think I'd manage it but before I had even finished, the phone rang! Voilà women can do anything!!laughing

This Help page from Slingshot suggests they will give you passwords. It is interesting they didn't.

I'll have a look at that. I just had the feeling he wanted me to stick with their modem and he was very clear that I wouldn't be able to get it happening. Now my issue is drop offs, usually quite late at night. At least I know now its not a modem issue.
