I have fibre and netcom NF4V router. I also use Google Home. As of two days ago my Google Home devices (3 of them) have all stopped working complaining of no being configured

Spoke to Google who asked if there have been any changes to Router in that time.

I am wondering if orcon have pushed out some changes that may have caused problems with the Google homes devices connecting to Network.

Google have made several suggestions and we have blown away all the Google Home settings and started from scratch but no luck. I looked in the router logs and noticed this while we were trying setup.

Any ides please

OK Thanks it was just the kernel intrusion that had me wondering as it seemed as if the Google Home device may be causing it.

I am at a loss we have completely rebuild the home devices but they just don;t seem to be able to connect cleanly to network to transfer the settings. Google are ring back early tomorrow and we will try again

Thanks

Continuing the saga. I have spent a couple of hours with google trying to solve problem of whu Google Home has stopped working. We have blown away settings and reinstalled and it falls over at end of setup saying that it has an authentication failure. Tried different google account same problem. Google have gone away to think about it. Meanwhile I had an idea.

I setup a hotspot on my phone and connected a tablet to that and tried to setup the google home. It worked first time. This leads me to think that there is something going wrong with my Orcon Netcom NF4V Router as far as wifi goes. As stated above the Google Home has worked fine for over a year so something has changed.

The only trigger I can think of is that last Sunday Vector decided to replace a few poles in my street and took the power off for a whole day. I shut Netcom down before hand and restarted it after. Could something have gone wrong eg would it have received a new settings or anything that could stop the wifi from working with the Google Home. From the error message it sounds like that at some stage in the setup the Google Home needs to check my google account settings and during that process something in the Netcom wifi fails. had a look at router settings but not a lot of things that I can change,

Does any of the above ring a bell with anyone. What would let the setup work fine on my 4G hotspot wifi compared with the wifi from Netcom. I tried a second wifi router Netgear at other end of house and feed by cat 5 off the Netcom router and that will not work either.

Puzzling but has to be something that has changed in last week

The only diff from yours above and mine is that the WPA/WAPI encryption on mine is TKIP+AES.

Have you tried no encryption as a test?

This would probably be the problem. As the NF4V can't handle secondary WiFi APs. As devices move between the NF4V WiFi and the secondary WiFi. The nf4v sees the MAC addresses of devices moving between WiFi and Ethernet. Other routers can handle this no problem. But this stuffs the routing table in the router. And the symptom is some devices unable to transfer data.

You need to either only use the NF4V inbuilt WiFi. Or disable the inbuilt WiFi if you want to use separate access points.

edited to add

That's why I asked about access points in your other thread.

have tried all suggestions but no luck. As stated above the Home sets-up fine if I use my phones hotspot and connect wifi to hotspot. So it has to be router.

have tried no encryption, various encryptions but although I can connect to Home if I go through setup it times out at end with authentication problems.

It's a pain but if I can setup via phone hotspot its a pity I cannot set it up that way but once set up that is the only way it will work, there is no way to switch Home on to Netcom router wifi.

I am wondering if I should look at resetting the router but not sure if it will upset the whole system my phone also comes through the router

Might have to talk to Orcon techies tomorrow and see if they can throw any light on problem

Locking the router wifi channel  to specific channel (rather than leaving on auto) within the spectrum used in US could be a good idea.

factory reset of the router would be something worth trying?

The pain of factory reset is that I have a lot of DNS stuff in there which will be a pain to replace. If I do reset does the standard config come back down from Orcon with all the SIP stuff and how the heck does one do a factory reset is there a button on router?

How do you know if your DNS stuff isn't causing a problem with the Home calling home.

Your choice but not the type of logic I use, especially in this situation.

@ronw how do you know something hasnt changed with the DNS Stuff? or google?

Try going back to the ISP's DNS servers and see if that makes a difference if not, try a factory reset.

you can back up your routers configuration before you do it, so once you have tested it in a factory state and worked out if it does or doesnt work, then you could reload the config and be back where you were before you did the reset.

just because nothing has changed at your end (to your knowledge, doesnt mean you shouldnt try and eliminate all the variables at your end, then you can definitively go to ORCON or GOOGLE and say the issue isnt at my end.

you are quite correct and I had got that far already. It had to be router as I could get Googlke Home setup via hotspot on my cellphone.

Bit the bullet and did a factory reset. It all came back sweet and then went to google home and it worked fine.

Despite the fact that the Google Home had worked fine with the DNS redirects for last year I am guessing that when we had the days power outage it did two things. The Google Home do some kind of a factory reset if the lose power for more than a minute. And second tI think the routing table in the Netcom were stuffed up when power came back on.

Between the two the Google Home tried to reset itself up and of course the Google redirects in DNS upset everthing.

I am going to talk to the experts about not doing the redirects that way and see if I can avoid a repeat. Though I imagine if I put them back in they woujld continue working until they had another power cut.

Thanks to everyone that gave advice and sort of pushed me in a new direction much appreciated
