They charge for fixed IP addreses - if you sign up for that option, you get both a static IPv4 address and a static IPv6 address block (/56).
attewell: $10 is quite expensive per month for a fixed ip.

If you think that's expensive you obviously aren't aware of the going rate for v4 address space these days!
The cost of IPv4 address space has almost nothing to do with the cost of a static IPv4 address. If you think about it for a moment, you will understand that now, unlike in the days of dialup, very few people ever disconnect their Internet connection. So most of the time, your ISP has to have enough IPv4 addresses to assign one to every single customer they have. So there is no extra cost to making those IPv4 addresses static. The exception, of course, is ISPs who do CGNAT. But for the rest, charging for static IPv4 addresses is just another sneaky way of extorting money.
And there should never be a charge for static IPv6 addresses, as dynamic IPv6 addresses are not supposed to exist. The whole point behind the large IPv6 address space is to ensure that there are static IPv6 addresses for every device using IPv6.
Kiwifruta: Static IPV4 addresses must be bought by the ISPs. Limited supply growing demand.
But they have to buy as many IPv4 addresses as they have customers anyway -they do not have to buy more to give you a static IPv4. So there is no reason for any extra monthly charge. A tiny setup fee might be justified - enough to cover a minute of someones time.

Except it does. With the exception of Spark (who own a yuuugggggggggggggggggeeeeeeeeeeee amount of IPv4 space) a lot of RSP's in the NZ market have all traded in the IPv4 space over recent years. Indirectly it does relate, as it's simply a way of trying to recover some of those costs.
Hi @attewell,
At the moment it is $10 a month to get both an IPv4 Static IP and IPv6 /56 block. Right now we don't provide IPv6 address for free or as a one off fee, but we appreciate the feedback and will pass it on :)
Cheers ^BRM
