Hi,

Thanks in advance.

I'm having trouble setting up my existing HG659 with Slingshot Fibre. I have two HG659s and both are doing the same. I have now factory reset one and still no luck. It says it is connected and adresses, DNS servers and gateways are assigned but...no internet and the internet light is just flashing. Have reset everything including ONT. There are a few differences between what slingshot say to configure a BYO router and what the HG659 setting look like. I can't find a "802.1Q" setting in the HG659, for example.

HG659:

Hardware: VER.B

Software: V100R001C297B011

How slingshot says to configure your own router:

How my HG659 config looks like:

Many thanks,

Simon

Hi Simon,

You've already set VLAN 10 (802.1q) in your HG659 below:

What are the other options under Connection type?

Assuming this is a basic dynamic IP connection without routed subnets etc. , I think the problem here is the IPv4 default gateway should be something like 101.98.0.92 (v1.cpcwn2-bng1.tranzpeer.net) rather than one IP number down from the assigned IPv4 address.

Are you sure there is nothing in between your ONT and HG659?

IP config reminds me of the old school ADSL modem half-bridge configurations.

You haven't set a static IP somewhere in the router have you ? As yitz mentioned, the connection IP and gateway IP should not usually be that close or even on the same subnet as such.

OP can you also share the configuration of "LAN Interface" under "Home Network" tab?

You could try disabling IPv6, get IPv4 working first.

I have the exact same software version but don't see a "IPv4 default gateway" field in my connection.

Hi Everyone. Thanks SO much for the help. I'll answer everyones questions/suggestions below, as it may be interesting technically but first...

so after about four hours of fiddling last night I posted this thread and left it alone. Tried to see if I could load google again before going to bed - still couldn't. My Ubiquiti had no internet, my laptop had none and my phone had none. Went to work today, came home, plugged the laptop into the router and I had internet. I literally did nothing. You can imagine the look on my face. :| not impressed. Then I remembered they send me my first bill at 8:30am this morning and I though it looked a bit funny. Pic below. There's this weird charge for just one day - yesterday, when I couldn't connect. Despite sending me an email on the 9th saying "Youre fibre connection is live" I'll bet they didn't liven it software-ily till today. I'm going to ring and ask them about this because if that's what's hapened, it's not on. Such a waste of people's time.

Actually I'm wrong. The settings now say Full Cone NAT. So I must have changed that after posting. But I had tried Full Cone NAT previously so....dunno. Anyone even know what it is as opposed to NAPT?

Nah won't be symmetric vs full cone NAT, I suspect they were trying to redirect you to a (possibly broken) captive portal to display a billing message.

Your IPv4 gateway has probably changed to something like 101.98.x.x.

Now that it's working here is the current details. Looks like the only thing different is the IPV6 address and prefix list

Hi. I had factory reset the Router so I don't think this would be a problem(?)

Well that surprises me, I'm now wondering if there is some kind of address and port re-mapping they do even though you are on a publicly routable IP (are you?) that's not compatible with some types CPE firewall/NAT? Maybe I wasn't wrong about it being a bastardised setup like the old ADSL modem half-bridge.

Has it got anything to with their family filter feature? I recall this was turned on for new connections at one stage...

yitz,

Sorry I'm not tech savvy enough to answer whether I'm on a publicly routable IP. Happy to search if you can guide me.

Family Filter. Doesn't seem to be any Parental Control rules if that's equivalent

Go to a website like https://whatismyipaddress.com/ and check if the IPv4 address shown on the site is the same as the IPv4 address shown on your HG659's WAN (INTERNET_ETH_VID) interface.

By family filter I mean the service provided by Slingshot which you can turn off/on on the accounts page.

Anyway, glad to know it's working for you now, it's not a huge deal what the IPv4 default gateway address is in this case as it merely serves as a pointer.

Does seem to be the same. Yes I'm pretty sure I remember de-selecting a family filter at some point.
