Shouldnt telcos be leading the way by not using cellphones while driving?

2Degrees driving advertising obviously havent heard the message? Good advertising but to bad i was concentrating on the 3 drivers in 3 different cars all on there phones?

Thoughts?

No. I bet they rubbed their hands with glee when this was announced. I sure know I would if I was selling mobiles and hands free gear..

Really? Because last I looked the telcos have a very poor selection of hands free gear. And besides, why would people be buying new phones so they can do hands free - doesn't every phone made after 1925 have bluetooth?

I think you'll find Vodafone doesn't sell them at all. We give them away with almost every handset we sell.

If you want a cordless/in-car kit/Bluetooth/something else you'll have to visit one of our partner stores (Digi Mobile, First Mobile, Dick Smith, The Warehouse etc) because we don't sell them.

I've taken out all the names I called you before posting this but it was a close run thing.

Vodafone called for a ban on using mobiles in cars about 18 months ago. I'm proud to say we helped kick this current legislation off. It isn't easy for a corporate body to call for a ban on its own products. We did and I am pleased to work for a company that has the chops to stand up when it counts.

You mean the piece of string that came with my last Vodafone handset I bought last year that passes off for "Handsfree"??

it;s quite simply old3eyes.

If that 'piece of string' means you can use the phone without holding it in your hands, then yes, it is handsfree.

hands free = your hands are free to do other stuff whlst using it (the clue is in the name)

Also, most phones have speakerphone too, giving you yet another option for in-car phoning 'hands free'.

My current flip fone to go to speaker fone option requires two actions after you answer the call, Options button then digit 1 and then you have to do this for every call. I will most likely buy a bluetooth handsfree device

After using a nokia 1100, a N95 and a N97 while driving, its certainly a case that the crapper the phone is the easier to use one handed.

If someone knows of a non bluetooth handsfree that will work with more then one handset at once, I would be happy to know.

Bluetooth is really unreliable when driving around IME...

Giving you crap and making a decided effort not to sell you an upgrade? Oh yeah, it's a business plan don't ya know?

I would think it would be more dangerous to drive with all those damn cords hanging around my neck, trying to strangle me.

+1 for comedic value and backing the law change, I've had to ban myself from e-mailing from my iPhone in rush hour after a few near misses. If only it were illegal it would hammer home how dangerous it is, I've had a crash before because of TXTing...

Shame on me but I still do it! Shocking.

In South Africa it's been illegal to phone while driving for more than 10 years; NZ is far behind. I might take a very quick call, but as soon as I approach traffic I'll stop talking and first check what other cars are doing. Men can do only one thing at a time... but that one thing we do very good ;-).
