My free orcon dynalink modem starting making high pitch noises and disconnecting occasionally, so I picked up a Huawei MT882 off TradeMe.

I can't see any way to set this up in Bridge mode on Orcon.. does anyone know if this is possible?

As far as I can see your ISP needs to support PPPoE to use this, and I can't see the nice PPP-forwarding option that the Dynalink RTA1320 had to pass the WAN traffic directly to the WRT54G (running DD-WRT).

So I've currently set it up in double-NAT configuration with the DMZ as the WRT54G which seems to work fine, but I've heard this isn't optimal.

Any thoughts?

why not just use the MT882 for all the DHCP stuff and turn it off in the WRT54G

Currently we don't support PPPoE on our Orcon+ or Orcon platforms.

The modem would need to support PPPoA.

(PPPoE will may come in the near future)

Thanks for the responses - good to know about PPPoE.

I like using the WRT54G to route, as it has really flexible QoS and port forwarding options and has cool features like Wake-On-Lan from the router, which is why I don't do DHCP on the MT882

That is interesting, monkey300. I am using the same hardware configuration, an MT882 with a WRT54G (except I'm using different firmware). I'm using the DHCP server on the WRT router, and have it as the DMZ for NAT, but haven't noticed any problems with this arrangement. However, I'm not an online gamer, so I don't really strain my connection, and I'm not an Orcon customer. But I'm intrigued by your comments about using WOL from the router. I may be changing my firmware to DD-WRT soon. Thanks for the tip.

I found WOL handy when I was overseas, I could wake up one of my computers and use VNC on my iPhone to view webcam to check on my place while I was away, do a bit of work on my laptop then send them back to sleep.

I've heard that double-natting can be a bit sub-optimal but can't say i've really had any issues with it.
