I've never dealt with a more unprofessional outfit than Orcon.

In September I moved from Auckland to the Kapiti Coast. Not only did I go south, my Orcon internet speed went south as well. For two month I tried to get Orcon to sort it out. They blamed Telecom.

At the beginning of November, after one last fruitless attempt to get Orcon to sort it out I signed up to Telecom. I advised Orcon that I'd moved to Telecom and to send me a bag to return the modem. They told me about the one month notice period etc. Whatever, I'd pay $157 to never deal with Orcon again.

As an aside, as soon as I transfeered to Telecom, my interent problems wnet away and I was back up to the leve lof service that I used to get in Auckland!

Sure enough I got a bill at the end of November for $157 that I paid. no bag had turned up for the modem. I 'phoned them again and asked for the bag. The guy on the 'phone didn't know why the bag had not been sent and promised to send another.

At the end of December I got another for $157!!! I 'phone Orcon and asked why. They said that they didn't have a cancellation request, but did confirm that I's asked to return the modem. I question why would asked to return the modem if I wasn't cancelling the account. He replyed that I may have purchased my own modem. I then questioned why there was no usage on my account and why my telephone service was now through Telecom and not Orcon. Eventially I sensible fella at Orcon sorted it out for me, backdating the cancelling tio to 1st December.

Unfortunatly the credit would not occur until the end of January. I the meantime Orcon credit services continued to send me reminder emails for the outstanding "debt".

Orcon were true to their word and credited my account at the end of January. To be on the safe side, I called Orcon to ensure that the money would be credited to my account. During the subsequent conversation I realised that if I hadn't called, I wouldn't have got the refund.

All sorted.

Until today.

Tody I got an email that (rather smugly, I felt), informed me that Orcon have made an error onthe last invoice (surprise), crediting me $250 for the modem (remember the bag(s) that never turned up), when they should have debited it. Turns out that, until the modem is returned, I own them money.

So, two months after cancelling my Orcon account I am back on the telephone with themcomplaining about their poor customer service like a stuck record. I think a bag is on its way to me now. When the modem is with them, the refund will be made. I hope.

The other thing that annoys me about Orcon is that, whilst I was in Auckland, 99% of the time Orcon provided a great service. The problems only occured when having to deal with their customer service peeps. That being said, the team leaders that I've dealt with are helpful and apologetic. Ordinarily I'd sooner support the underdog but, unfortunatly in order to get a decent service I've had to move over to the Telecom monopoly.

Until Orcon get their act together, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

**If there are any Orcon employeed reading this, please give me your details, should I have any problems finalising my business with Orcon, I've going to be offering a $50 bounty to anyone that I able to finally rid me of having to deal with Orcon, so that I may finally move on with my life!!**

My god! I had almost the exact same experience! That's scary!!! It took them 3 months to credit me the money they owed when they charged my card and the same deal with the modem return!! I can't believe this- it's unreal!

I started off dealing with incompetent, arrogant idiots who really shouldn't be in customer service and ended up dealing with someone who was professional in the end. So there are good eggs in there somewhere. But I'd never ever EVER go back or recommend them after that fiasco!

I can't get over how similar this is with mine!
Same ending with me too, moved to Telecom and it was all fixed

Uncanny. The only difference is that I hadn't moved.

I intend to let this topic fester for a while that then send the folks at Orcon a link to it. I'd be interested in how many people have had a similar experience. My Spelling really takes a hit when I post angry!Embarassed

If you browse older topics you will find a few others with similar issues.

However it is not an Orcon only problem, I dont know of any ISP that hasnt caused someone grief somewhere.

This was my dealings with them.

That started January last year, so after a year they are still 'sorting out' the modem return policy.  Yeah right!!!!
