I'm wondering if anyone with a 2degrees mobile broadband modem (huawei e1552) would be able to test it on a computer running windows 98 for me.

Yes I know, windows 98 is ancient.

I'm reluctant to buy the modem if it cant work and windows 98 is all this friend has.

Is there some AT command you can use to turn it into some other device as far as windows is concerned to get around the 2degrees application?

Any ideas?

Hmm, wouldn't count on it. Borrow one and test would be my recommendation. IIRC, you'll need to install USB support on Win98 if you haven't already. If the 2degrees software doesn't work you could try dial up networking or something like

You could buy a vodafone complete modem on trademe (~$100) that can plug in the 2degrees or vodafone modem into that, then use it like a normal internet connection, but you may aswell put the money towards a new PC like the previous poster said

What is the machine used for? If it is running 98 I'm guessing they aren't exactly a power user, do they need anything more than a browser and a word processor?

If not, maybe find a local uni IT department and see if any students want to make $50 throwing together a machine out of 5 year old parts and tweaking a linux install to make it easy to get to the 2 or 3 programs that the user needs.
