I ha a sky recorder works fine decided to try freeview STB.
I have a DSE/Zinwell and a dish ultra pvr.
I removed aerial from sky box and used it on each freeview box in turn but I cannot get any signal at
all the signal on each box shown no activity. Have tried manual scans but nothing
Its as if the sky dish its not providing a signal to the freeview boxes though the mysky works fine
Any ideas anyone?

Sky satellite signals use Vertical polarisation, freeview uses Horizontal.

You can't run sky and freeview off the same dish at the same time.

Nor is that what is being attempted, as I read the post.  I take it to mean that the cable from the LNB/dish is attached only to the trial STB during the test, but no joy.

Are you sure that you have the box configured to send power to the LNB?  There will be a menu item somewhere.  If you provide the model number, someone may know exactly where.

The L.O. frequency in the Freeview box could also be wrong.  It should be either 10.75GHz or 11.3GHz depending on your LNB.

For what it's worth, this is completely wrong.

Can you be a bit clearer please?
Provide model numbers as mentioned above.

Are you sure your new freeview boxes are for satellite?

OK I have two Satellite Freeview boxes. One is the standard DSE box a few years old I think it is a Zinwell box rebranded. The other is a Dish PVR which is actually an Ultra S7090 box brand new.
I unplug the coax from the SKY box and plug it into either of the Freeview STB's and get no signal at all. If I do a scan it comes back with database empty which is not surprising as there is no signal showing on the meter at the bottom of the screen. Have checked all the obvious things like cables etc but as it goes perfectly fine with SKY I would think the same cable into Freeview should also work. As the Ultra is new I would think that it should already be set for NZ and all I should need to do would be select my city and away it should go.
I dont think the settings for LNB and TP's etc should be wrong on this box but will carefully check it all out tonight and make sure some of the suggestions on here check out.
Thanks for help so far will report back

On the newer S7090 unit you should be able to force it to do a fresh install, which will including both common lnb settings automatically.

Is this the first time that unit has been used? ~as it should have done this itself if it's brand new.

Make sure the dish cable is screwed properly into the lnb IN socket if there are more than one on the back of the new freeview units.

I have done the factory reset on the S7090 and also upgraded the firmware as there was an update issued this month. Thanks for suggestions will be back on the trail tonight. I really think it is something silly like a bad connection and you may be right re the F connectors, as the S7090 has 4 F connectors on the back two of which are shorted out by a cable so that you can get access to two channels recording and there is so little room to get my fingers in the space to screw up the connector ferrule. I think I prefer standard BNC N connectors which are easier to connect but that's another story

Of course you can run both Freeview and Sky on S7090 at the same time.

Shouldn't be an issue, does sound like you have a cable connectivity problem to me. I did exactly this with my S7090 at home before I installed it on the boat. Unplugged the cable from my MySky box and plugged it into the S7090, ran the setup and it worked just fine with both Sky and Freeview channels available, until the "scrambled signal" issue popped up after about 40 or 50 minutes which has been fixed with the latest sw

+1.

I have done many setups with freeview and sky using the same feed, from one dish.

Ah... sorry folks. It seems I may have jumped the gun there and misread what was going on.
My apologies.

Judging by the responses, I am probably wrong, but I was always under the impression that Sky uses Vertical polarity, and Freeview Sat uses Horizontal. And you can only run one polarity at a time on one LNB and cable.

Ok, I've just had a look at Lyngsat.com, and it appears both Sky and Freeview transponders are H. I'm sure Sky used to be V. Am I just going mad? ;)

Not since B1 died, Sky and FreeView are on the same Hpol transponder set and have been since D1 went into service some 6yrs ago. There is no Vpol capacity on D1 of any use (well for broadcast coverage in NZ), hence both Sky and FreeView both and always have used Hpol on D1 and Vpol when on B1.

They were meant to both use Vpol on D1 also, but someone at Orbital Sciences (who made D1) put the antenna feeds in back to front, and then the 10layers of QA checking that followed that never noticed, till it was in orbit. Dont think their service van was going to make the trip to correct it.

Update on Satellite STB's As suggested it was the cable presumably unscrewing the F connector from the Skybox disclocated something and when I took cover off and pushed coax into the socket firmly and reassembled it worked fine.
Should have detected that yesterday but was so sure it was OK as it worked a few minutes earlier.
Now I really need a new dish at the other end of the house. I dont really want to interfere with the current dish as it is already driving two boxes, but that is another story
Thanks to everyone for helpful advice

I've only ever really dealt with a Sky set up once, and that probably was around 6-7 years ago, so that's probably why it has stuck in my mind like that.
It's also possible that I was getting my wires crossed (so to speak) with the SBS vertical situation.

Ok, please feel free to ignore me and carry on this conversation. Embarassed
