Hi all,

Noob here so sorry if this is a stupid post.

As the title says, I am trying to tune my new DISH-TV box set using an ex SKY-TV satellite to OPTUS D1.

I have tried changing my LND to all the presets available but only am able to complete a scan using 11300Mhz.

The satellite signal and quality is strong at about 90%, and it says there are 6 carriers and 18 services available, but still i only get 9 channels.

The 9 channels i am getting are:

TRT Turk

Duna World

TVR International

The Word Network

3ABN International

Angel TV

Amazing Discoveries

TGN

and 3 SKY LNB Test channels.

Any help would be greatly received on this!

Cheers in advance.

Thats the wrong satelite. D2, not D1 - they're separated by a few degrees

Is it a dual head? Sounds like you have possibly activated the 22khz switch and its switched head. Or the dish is off-centre

What settings have you put in for the LNB?

If it's easy to do, a photo of the LNB on the dish would help as well.

There's no way of receiving those channels with a standard domestic Sky setup, so either the LNB has been replaced with a different one (possibly dual / 8 degrees) or the dish isn't pointing in the right direction.

Kinda dark at the minute so sorry for the potatoe quality picture.

Dish is a single head (as far as I can tell), so I’m guessing that it’s pointing in the wrong direction then and picking up the wrong signal?

That's pretty helpful!

That LNB will have an LO frequency of 10750 (not 11300).

It's also dual throat (you can see both of them), that are 4 degrees apart. Sky installed them to look at Optus D1 (160 degrees) and Optus C1 (156 degrees). The second throat (C1) was activated by turning on the 22kHz switch.

As originally installed, it wasn't pointing at Optus D2 (152 degrees) which is what you are seeing. The dish has probably been moved to point to D2 to pick up those channels. If you're feeling up to it, it needs to move 8 degrees towards the west (standing behind it, move to the left a small amount). From there, the elevation (tilt up/down) will need to be tweaked a few mm as well. If you're patient, you can do this using the signal level meter on the screen, moving a few mm at a time, but it can be frustrating if you've never done it before!

Glad it worked!

Probably not the best thing to do up ladder (?) in the dark, but when you get some time, spend a few minutes tweaking the dish left/right/up/down a couple of mm at a time to get the signal strength as high as possible. There will be a delay of a few seconds each time you move it until the meter updates. Then tighten everything up so it doesn't move. It's possible it's even moved in the wind if the mounting is loose. If it hasn't been aligned for the best signal, you are more likely to lose signal in heavy rain / wind.
