I don't do much with satellite anymore but I had to make some adjustments and discovered Turkish CNN on Intelsat 19, unscrambled, if this interests anyone. It is on H265 test1. Don't know how long it has been there or how long it will last.

Youll find a lot more than that if you tidy the alignment.

Under TP 12286H
Some things have been added since the last time I looked. Not really that interested in satellite anymore, though, since I can get all this and much more via streaming. It is good to know, though, since I already have the set-up.

I am playing with my satellite settings and, as usual, I have run into something I don’t understand. I recently acquired a new STB and I suspect it may not be quite as sensitive as the old one was. On D1 I sometimes get very brief pixelation. On Intelsat 19 it is worse and reception is sometimes intermittent. The new STB does not give BER values, but it does have two bar graphs indicating ‘Signal’ and ‘Quality’. Signal is signal strength, of course, and on D1 it usually hovers around 55% or so. I assume the Quality reading is the bit error rate. It is also usually close to 50%.
I want to improve this but working on it is a hassle so I am trying to approach it by doing the easiest things first. I decided to start with a 20db in-line amp just to see what it would do. I placed it next to the diseqc switch near the dish. This has changed my readings, but I am a little perplexed by the results. Signal strength has gone up to 100% on all satellites, but the Quality reading has gone way down, now sitting at around 30%. Reception seems okay, and may (or may not) have improved slightly. I’m not sure. So far I haven’t seen any sign of pixelation on D1, but I’m still getting it on Intelsat 19, though maybe not as bad.
What I really don’t understand is why the quality reading has gone down. Does this mean that the amp is introducing more errors, or that the patch cable connecting it may be faulty? Can anyone offer more insight on this?

Line amps are a waste of time in the age of digital , they are just to make up for long cable runs. Overloading the frontend of a receiver due to too much signal is the result as you found out.
Is that what it is? How do you tell? The cable run is pretty long, probably close to 30 metres give or take a little. I am trying different things to see what they do, starting with the easiest.
