Last week, I plugged in my new Hauppauge WinTV HVR-900 HD TV tuner card I just purchased on to my Vista computer - and everything worked fine out of the box.

I was really happy I did not have to install any third party software like it was suggested in other posts in this forum despite the fact that I was using DVB-T.

I even got EPG working automatically as soon as I installed the WinTV V 7 that came with the card on the Vista (64 bit) comptuter last week.

... But a week after I installed it, I can no longer see the weekly schedule. In fact the only one I can see is a couple of programs (see screen dump below).

Screen Dump

Has anyone come across similar problem? I rather not install any third party EPG - as I saw it working with my own eyes on the day I install it - I am totally at a loss why I dont see any text on the WIN TV Scheduler.

This is perfectly normal. The EPG broadcast as part of the DVB signal (the EIT EPG) only contains the now+next show details. The full 8 day EPG is only broadcast in the MHEG5 signal that is transmitted and WinTV (along with every other Windows based TV app) is incapable of decoding this. The only software with MHEG5 support is MythTV.

If you want a 8 day EPG you need to use an external EPG source.

Your setup is working normally. Freeview only provide now/next epg data for DTT, all other programs will just be a ".". If you want a complete EPG you will need to use a third party EPG.

Thank you Sbiddle & OpenMedia. OK I been reading about a dozen posts on the topic - and this is what I figured out so far.....

(1) Install a 3rd party app e.g. [BigScreen Software]

(2) Find a source of EPG feed. THe two that people commonly use are Reven.co.nz or XMLTV.co.nz for Digital HD stuff on FreeView

(3) Install some sort of scheduling agent that download and copies the feeds into the relevant folder.

I will be grateful if someone would point to a single link that will walk you through all this for either a Vista (64bit) setup or Windows 7 setup for a DVB-T HD tuner like the Hauppauge WinTV HVR-900 HD.

I browsed through dozens of posts about problems and issues - but I had not been able to find a 'guide' - may be I am looking in the wrong place.

Also, I am thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 - so if someone got WinTV HVR-900 HD working with EPG and Windows 7, I would love to know - otherwise - I will stick to Vista (64 bit) ultimate.

Thanks in advance
Tim

OK - a quick update.... I been looking at Big screen EPG - which looks pretty good.

It is free at the moment.. but only till end of August. According to the web site.... 'When running in *FREE* Mode (post expiry date) - the product will run in a 'reduced' capacity - such as Maximum 4 days EPG (instead of 14), Reduced Metadata output, No Series Injection, Nag Screens etc. More information on the *FREE* mode and how to upgrade will be released over coming weeks.'

I can live with 4 days EPG. But not sure if I want to pay for it yet. What about others here - do you pay for the one you use?

Tim
