Was having some trouble with freeview in our new flat because the antenna on the roof had blown down at some stage and never been fixed. Was looking at costs to replace the antenna and work something out with the landlord, but came across the Draco ANT-200 on freeviewshop and trademe. Gave it a go and it is pretty well awesome.
It is a small white box about 10 cm by 20cm and about 2 cm thick. It comes with a small flexi adapter and hardware to mount it to a pole or a wall or anywhere else you might want. It has a 3m cable included with a F connector for the antenna and a standard tv connector on the other end.
We are out in Eastern Beach and in a good coverage area according to the Freeview website. I initially had this antenna down low on a pole outside the flat, but it got too much interference. I next mounted it up under the eaves above our deck and reception was much better. It is pointed roughly past the sky tower, which means it should be vertical, but I found it gave the best reception in the horizontal position. This means it is probably getting its signal from the Waitaks. It is a polarised antenna, but is omnidirectional.
After plugging in the power adapter and putting it all together, I turned on the TV to find a perfect crystal clear picture on our HDTV. Checked the system information on the Sony tv and it tells me I have 96% signal and 100% quality. For the place it is and the amount of trees we have around us, Im very impressed.
I bought mine on trademe from yenpaul for $67 and it came free with a power adapter. Freeviewshop.co.nz sells them too for $64, but you pay extra for the power adapter.
For anyone who does not have easy access to an antenna, I would recommend this little box. It could be mounted inside or outside and the cable is a reasonable length for experimenting with placement inside if needed. It needs a power adapter if your tv or set top box do not supply power to the antenna. Just thought I would post this for anyone struggling with bunny ears in a flat
