I have a W7 MCE box set up and I think that the Sharp LNB (60cm dish) installed by Sky for the previous owners has gone on the fritz. I used to get perfect reception of SBS channels on it, now it is pretty choppy, with the signal strength all over the show (100%, then 30%, then 60% then nothing). I don't use it for NZ Freeview by satelite as I have DVB-T for that
If this was a tuning/alignment issue, I'd expect to see it solid but at a lower power, or not at all.
What have I done?
I don't immediately have a ladder to hand, so I've been limited to what I can reach at this stage
- The last time I was up on the roof, there were no trees in the light of sight. The signal still bounces around on completely calm days as well, so I'm not convinced it has anything to do with an obstacle like an errant branch.
- Checked the RG-6 cabling from the HTPC back under the house to the edge of the roof. Nothing seemed out of place and I re-terminated the HTPC end just to be on the safe side. This had no effect.
- Retuned the HTPC.
I'm starting to think the LNB is on the way out. Unless the wise Geeks of this domain have other suggestions.?.?.?.?.?
If a replacement LNB is required, I would like to get one that is a straight drop in replacement for the Sharp unit I have already. Preferably one that is a bit more sensitive (gain) than the one that I have already have. Any recommendations?
Hopefully I can get my hands on a ladder this weekend and have a poke around.
Thanks all. I have posted a pic of the info on the current LNB.
