A week ago our Freeview was working just fine and in an attempt to receive even more Freeview channels we started playing with the LNB frequency settings of our DIGITVIEW Freeview box. To start fresh we deleted all existing channels and then performed a scan with the new LNB setting. This scan did not find any channels so we reset the box to the factory settings and performed an automatic scan. This scan also did not find any channels and whatever we have tried since has not resulted in us finding a single channel.

Has anyone else had a similar problem after resetting a Freeview box to its factory settings? Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Thank you for your help!

Check that the IF for the LNB is correctly set. It'll probably be 10750 or 11300.
This is specific to the LNB you have, and you have to set your receiver to match.

Hi Christine,

Unfortunately the Digitview satellite box isn't one of the official Freeview approved products. Had you reset one of those, it would have reloaded the settings for Freeview and it would be working fine.

The main settings you need are:

LNB frequency: depends on the satellite dish, usually 10750 or 11300 MHZ

LNB Setting: Horizontal, H, 18V and "22kHz off"

Satellite frequency: 12456 for half the channels and 12483 for the other half

Symbol rate: 22500 for each frequency

Edit: Forgot to add that once you've loaded those settings you need to perform a scan on each frequency to load up the channels, after that you will probably have to rearrange the channel order too.

Hopefully loading these back in will get you going OK.

Hi hdinsider,

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation! We had no idea that the DIGITVIEW box is not an approved box. When we got it we just switched it on and it did its search and found almost all the Freeview channels. We did have to rearrange them though as you suggested we might have to do now. Interestingly it was telling us they were on Astra 1F-L rather than on Optus D1.

Anyway, this after noon I put all the values in that you told us (turns out our LNB is 11.3 MHz), but we still got no signal when performing a search - to search the satellite frequencies you gave us I performed an NIT search and searched TPs 3/16 and 5/16 on Optus D1 as these two TPs have the correct frequencies. I hope that is the correct search to perform? Also, when I go to "Edit Satellite" to put in the correct LNB I have to choose an "LNB Type". I have the options of Standard, User and Universal. If I go for User or Universal I have to input "Freq1" and "Freq2" for the LNB, if I go for Standard it's only "Freq1" and it is also only in Standard that I get to set the 22K to off. I therefore decided to go with Standard for LNB Type, was that correct?

Something else might cause us not to be able to get a good signal: it turns out that after we first lost the signal my partner rotated the LNB on the satellite dish and it might now not be in the same position it was in before. We therefore tried rotating it again, and in a couple of positions our signal quality for TP 3 temporarily went up to 35%. However we have not been able to find a position in which we can get constant high signal quality, and the signal intensity is always 59% no matter what the settings are or which position we put the LNB in. Do we need a satellite finder to find the correct position of the LNB?

Hope you have some more clever ideas and thanks again!

Yep, for the LNB type, Standard is the right choice and 22k should be off. You must be close if you are getting some signal quality measured, (signal level can be anything really because there is an amount of noise there even with no real signal).

When looking into the dish, the LNB will normally have the cable coming out at around a 7 o'clock angle, so maybe start from there and make small (5-10 degree) movements while looking at the quality meter. Once you've peaked that up, have a go at panning and tillting the dish to optimise the angle.

It's worth a go, but if all else fails, getting a professional in shouldn't be too costly, (it was going before so shouldn't take them long).

Thank you again so much for your help!

It has taken a while, but we managed to get a satellite finder and move the LNB and the dish in the right place -  and we have now managed to find all the NZ Freeview channels again! I did have to rearrange them, but everything is working fine now :)

Does anyone know if it is possible to receive SBS in Wellington? If yes, how can we find it? We have been told that it is also on Optus D1, but even though I performed an automatic scan of all the TPs on the satellite SBS was not found. Any ideas?

Yes I can access SBS in Wellington off a SKY dish.

Sorry I am not familiar with the decoder you use.

It's possible that the LNB you have does not handle vertical polarisation, and without that, you won't get SBS.

Another possibility is that you may need to tweak the LNB skew (that is, rotate it a bit one way or the other around its axis) as the SBS signal is a little weaker than the FV ones, and so correct skew is more critical.

Yet another possibility, unlikely in your case I think, is that if the signal from the LNB is being split, one of the receivers may be holding the LNB in horizontal polarisation.
