According to the Freeview UHF coverage tool, I live in an area that has very good UHF coverage, and I wanted to know if an indoor UHF aerial will be just as good as an outdoor one for receiving Freeview??

The more obstructions between the transmitter and the receiver (aerial), the more the signal quality gets degraded. If the signal quality is degraded too much then you might get stutters or picture breakup, or maybe not receive the signal at all. Its quite similar to a cellphone or wireless internet and even regular analog TV in some ways. Outdoor aerials tend to be larger and have less walls and windows between them and the transmitter, therefore they can give a better quality and/or stronger signal. That isn't to say that an indoor aerial wouldn't work - just that the outdoor one would probably be more reliable (ignoring other factors to simplify).

No, but it would be way cheaper.
I use a 10 buck aerial and it's fine. I have to put it a certain way and stick a sheet of aluminum foil next to it for it to work though. Still easier than getting on the roof.

Because it is digital, if you can get the signal to receive properly then the quality would be the same.

Thanx for that DarkShadow. I will borrow an indoor one from a friend to make sure it works first before buying my own. Glad to know that they can work.
