We use outlook.com for personal (can now be synced with outlook desktop app) and office 365 for business works a treat.

Can I combine this with Office365Home?
the "issue" is what happened when you have a personal Microsoft account with office attached and a separate exchange plan with the "same" Microsoft ID..
I have this setup and it is not ideal but not the end of the world either. The issue is the two systems are separate, MS sees two separate accounts (one personal and one business) that happen to have the same login.
Anyhow... when you login to a Microsoft service it looks at the ID, realises you have two and asks if you want to use your business/school account of your home account.
It doesn't sound too bad but trust me if you are sharing office with your family, also have a real business account and have personal exchange it can be a bit frustrating
ok
So I just register the exchange account under the business domain I wish to host and be done with it. That way personal and business do not mix
And yes I agree on sharing office...

Got a friend who has 3 domains (all different domain hosts for some reason he can't remember) websites for each of the domains hosted and working fine (not too interested in mucking around with that).
But his email is a bit all over the place, there are 2 'employees' and they contract to 3 others at the most (seasonal work). Currently one of them uses gmail and (paid apps account) and has setup email accounts with the domain hosts having all the mail fwd to his gmail where he has setup that account to 'send as' any of the other ones, his colleague uses outlook (unsure what kind of account he has) and all his mail fwd's to him. Then the contractors he gives them access to google apps accounts depending on what task they are completing, I think he gets 5 free apps accounts and is paying for an additional 3 at 5-6 a month, its a bit of a mess really.
In this situation where there is multiple domains, each of the 2 employees has 3 email addresses on each domain send to them and then there is another 3 accounts per domain that need to be separate for contractors, would people still recommend Office 365? If it's a per email address sub fee I can see it getting pretty expensive ...

Yes, I would.
You can have as many aliases as you like on an O365 account on as many domains as you like (I've never struck a limit). But you can only SEND using ONE address. If you want to SEND using TWO or ore addresses, each email address you want to send from needs its own account. (There are workarounds like setting up a dummy POP account within Outlook, but I don't like them as they are messy.)
