Afternoon All,

Sorry if I dropped this in the wrong location.

I have recently been tasked with De-Commissioning the Exchange server, and to be honest im a little stumped as to how to correctly do this without really screwing up our systems.

We have migrated all of the Mailboxes to another supplier (with the exception of a useless remote worker who refuses to come into the office).

Once the Mx Records have been changed over to the new supplier what are the other dependencies that could be associated with the exchange box?

Exchange isn't really one of my areas of expertise but never-the-less I have to take it apart.

Any help would be fantastic.

sorry for a Noobish question

Cheers in advance

Is it just Exchange? Not a domain controller also?

Depending on which version of Exchange you are using MS have some very good documentaion on Technet.

You're a little light on detail for us to help. Decommissioning can be easy as just running the Uninstall command on your Exchange server, or it can be a bit more complex if you've got split roles or integration with other components on the same server.

Check the Technet articles that RhysB posted above.

Hi guys,

It is solely an Exchange server.

After a bit of research on the server yesterday i hve dedused that there are no other dependencies running so im all good to just turn off once the mx records have been changed.

thanks for your help

No, you shouldn't just turn it off. Once you're sure everything has migrated off the Exchange box, you should run the uninstall command as this will remove the Exchange attributes from Active Directory that aren't required.
