We have some smaller meeting rooms around NZ that we use for video conferencing, but occasionally some of the staff like to use the screens to do some local document collaboration stuff.

We currently are using LG 50LB5610 TV's for this. They are fine for the Video Con stuff, but they don't seem to be so good for static content, they seem to look a bit fuzzy and end up causing eye strain. Even if we move the res down from 1080p to something like 1600x900 it still doesn't improve it. We use short HDMI links from PC to screen so I don't think it's a signal issue.

My guess is we have gone a bit budget on the TVs. Can anyone who has gone through this or has some expertise in this feild give me a heads up on what we should should be looking for here?

Should we be going for a professional display (maybe something from Panasonic/Samsung range) or are there TV's are are going to be OK for this application, maybe with a higher scan rate etc?

I'm interested in following this thread. My suspicion is that it's the realities of 1080p display stretched large.

I have 2x 1080p 22" LCD screens in front of me at the moment. The display is sharp. I had a 27" on my desk 2 days ago to try, and I got rid of it after a few hours because the display lacked sharpness even though it was from a quality manufacturer. Stretching that to 50" would only make it worse. We have a 42" LCD on our wall for displaying large text. It's fine for that. Smaller text is hard to look at.

With video you are not looking at sharp edges with contrast like you do with black text on a white background for example. Your eyes will no doubt process text and video differently.

That may be a factor, but we are probably 2-3m back from the display in the meeting rooms. In the board rooms where we have probably a 100" screen from projector @ 1080p, at say 3-4m back it looks crystal clear. (I very much recommend the Canon WUX450 if anyone is in the market for a data projector btw)

Set the screen to game mode and drop sharpness to zero to remove the halos around text.

Check picture zoom is not zooming it to compensate for the PC doing under scan. Check the PC isn't set to underscan. Amd graphics are the worst at that but I have had Intel do it too. Really makes using HDMI in presentation situations a pain in the ass.
