1. how many people provide an call service to there employer
2. What do you get paid for it
3. If it is on a roster what is it 1 week in 2 or 1 week in 4 for and example

when i was on call....
$xx for been on call per week day, more $xx for the weekend
once a call was made you got $xx for the 1st 2hrs regardless if it was 5 mins or 2 hrs, then the standard overtime rate from there.
roster was evenly divided by those on call.

I got paid normal time, and was on call all the time. Minimum charge 1/2 hour.
Electrical type field, not in IT.
Have been on call 24/7 for years, except when on leave. Company supplied cell phone and service vehicle.
No extra pay for being on call. Compensated with a high wage rate???
$100 payment for call out, plus 3 hours minimum wages at 1.5 time.
Most call outs can be solved over the phone. Haven't actually had to leave home this year yet on a call out.

I am on call 1 week in every 6 - before tax payment of $500 which also covers fixing easy issues from home. if I have to come into work either time off in lieu or overtime is paid.
Guess I was on a bad deal haha. I never really thought about it as my hourly rate was pretty high.
It all depends on company, contract with client, etc. When I was on call (ten years ago or more) we were rotating (a team of developer, platform, manager or call every week) from Monday 8am through Monday 8am. We had pages (yes, back then) and we were expected to be on a conference call in five minutes if it went off. This means we were not allowed to leave the house during that week, unless to go to work, but then there'd be someone around during that travel time.
We were paid for each hour on call, regardless of being paged. We were paid per paging, even if multiple times on a night/weekend. And then were were paid per hour of work.
Obviously we're talking contracts in the millions of dollars, for a telco.
All depends on company policy, support requirements and your contract.

I recently left a job where I was on call roughly one week in four.
Paid around $400/week for being on call, which covered short/simple calls before 10pm and after 6am. Longer/complicated calls during that time were at $30/hour, and onsite work was at normal hourly wage. Calls between 10pm and 6am were antisocial and were an instant $60 (covering up to one hour of work for that incident, different incident within the hour was another $60, and further calls for the same incident after more than an hour were also $60)
Escalations when you weren't oncall were $60, or $120 if between 10pm-6am.
That was for a senior infrastructure engineer position.

On call when the boss is away on holiday's
24/7 , but is very rare to have anyone ring
No extra pay. Its part of the job . Not on a high salary.
The days of overtime pay , weekend pay etc are pretty much now gone for many .
I just consider myself lucky that 95% of the time I dont have to work weekends, as so many in service & other industries now do.
Im the same as 1101 - nothing extra but rare anything requires us.
One of my previous employers wanted extra support hours from 5pm-10pm every week night.... then added on 8am-10pm weekends. We said thats fine, but what we getting for it ? They said normal pay for the time we were on the phone - so if we spent 5mins on the phone, we'd only be paid that 5mins. We said hell no.
They came back and said OK, time and a half for the time we were on calls - no.
Eventually I got asked to find out what the going rate was out of hours for the work we were doing........ found that out from users here, went back to the boss and told him. His face went pale and I could tell management were going to say no. And they said no. So we said "no support then"... and that was the end of it.
So it does depend on the work, the load and how often.......
